Prologue
RED RAN THROUGH THE forest with a basket of baked goods for her granny, her red cloak flowing behind her. Heavy feet crashed at her heels. Red just had to get to the top of the hill, and then she'd be safe.
Her cloak snagged on a tree branch and she gagged, the string digging into her throat. She yanked on the lacings to untie it and keep running. She dodged trees and dropped the basket to give herself more momentum. Red tripped and clawed at the ground, pulling herself forward. Her dress made it difficult to get up, but the creature behind her motivated her to keep moving.
She saw shades of pink, purple, and orange emerging up over the hill as she started to get close. From the corner of her eye, a large creature closed in on her. She screamed, finally able to push herself up and sprinting as fast as she could, but it was no use. The monster side checked her, knocking her to the ground. She looked up at the yellow-eyed creature. Hello Wolf,
she whispered.
The large dog smirked, revealing his pointed teeth. Hello, little Red.
