About this ebook

Barbados 2050: Rising Tide is a science fiction short story that follows the main characters as they make a stand against climate change on the Caribbean island of Barbados.

When an unexpected message from the future is received by the world's first quantum computer, it confirms the scientific consensus that climate change is real and going to get much worse. Attempts are made to cover up the transmission but a young woman escapes with a copy and flees to Barbados to make an announcement to the world.

Time is running out for society to adapt and brace for the intensifying effects of a volatile environment. Even if they make the necessary changes, will it be enough to survive this harsh future?

    The Message

"Y ou have 33 years to find a way off this planet. Our climate change models were all wrong. Once the tipping point was reached everything accelerated and weather patterns spiraled out of control faster than we had ever expected. There were no more regular weather events, everything became unpredictable and chaotic. Scorching heat waves, dust filled droughts, bone chilling polar vortexes, snow dumping blizzards, torrential rainfalls, super hurricanes and severe sea level rise. Everyone on the planet was affected in some way.

The accumulation of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere set off a chain reaction of ever-increasing global temperatures which melted the polar ice caps and without those natural shields to reflect some of the sun’s heat the temperature continued to spiral upwards.
