    DRAGON’S LAIR

    Pelaam

Easily bored, Eryx is delighted to visit Dragon’s Lair’s closed world. There, he meets Jarah, a beautiful Draguardian. But Jarah’s secret could separate them forever.

Rich and easily bored, Eryx anticipates a holiday on the reclusive world of Dragon’s Lair. It’s just the solution to quench Eryx’s unending thirst for excitement and adventure. What could be more intriguing than coming face-to-face with one of the ancient and magnificent beasts?

There, he meets Jarah, a young, exceptionally beautiful man who is the Draguardian for the great dragon Adish. Unaccustomed to meaningful relationships, Eryx learns the hard way that there’s a world of difference between entertaining an attraction and acting on it. Careless actions have grave consequences. Nor is Dragon’s Lair all that it seems.

Helping to protect Jarah and his beloved dragons, Eryx uncovers the secret of Dragon’s Lair. More importantly, his slowly evolving love for Jarah comes to mean more than anything else.

However, Jarah has one more secret that could keep the lovers apart, forever.

    Chapter One

At the insistent beeping, Eryx glanced at his chronometer and hastily shut down the computer. Despite it being his birthday, he’d still wanted to see to a few things at work. That had led to him checking his email, and now it was nearly time for his sister and brother-in-law to arrive.

He hurried into the kitchen to get the champagne and glasses. The meal would arrive later. He rarely cooked, and was not prepared to make the effort today.

Chione had been very secretive about his gift. After all, what do you buy the man with everything? I wonder if she’s found some new electronic gadget. A mix of excitement and trepidation warred within him.

Although he was the older sibling, Chione was not only married, but had a couple of children and seemed to have made it her mission to help Eryx find his own lifemate. Please don’t let my gift be anything to do with other singles. As much as he appreciated the love behind her actions, Eryx found emotional interaction a difficult concept.

He was happy enough with his single lifestyle, along with his vast array of gadgets and toys to amuse and entertain him. His reliance on them was something of a family joke, but gadgets were safe ground for him. He did, occasionally, indulge in a casual liaison, but always in a safe environment, and with no intentions of it becoming anything more. So far, no one had made an impression on his heart.

At the sound of the door chime, Eryx went through to his living room, snagging a remote control and flipping the plasma screen walls to display ocean scenes with evocative music to accompany the changing vista.

He ushered Chione and his brother-in-law Zeno into his living room and handed out glasses of champagne.

Happy birthday, Eryx. The couple toasted him in chorus.

    Eryx returned their salute.

Thanks. So what’s this great secret you wouldn’t reveal until today?

You said you were looking for something different, Eryx.

The excitement in Chione’s voice caught Eryx and he leaned forward eagerly.

His sister grinned widely, and her eyes were alight with anticipation. Somewhere you’d never been and nothing like anything experienced before. Well, this is it. Chione’s hand shook as she handed Eryx a small envelope.

Eryx took the envelope and opened it. He withdrew a card and stared at it. He glanced up at Chione and Zeno, unable to speak. This was beyond anything he could have imagined.

You’ve bought me a holiday on Dragon’s Lair? He looked between his sister and her husband, who appeared every bit as excited as he felt. This is amazing, incredible.

You’ve complained for months that you wanted your next holiday to be something that was likely to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. What’s the matter? Chione teased him laughingly. Are you afraid to be out of communication for a couple of weeks? Not willing to give up luxuries and gadgets?

My own sister. Eryx spoke as though grumbling, but grinned as he looked into Chione’s blue eyes so similar to his own. You two really thought about this, didn’t you?

Absolutely, Chione replied. Here’s the information pack. There are things for you to read and sign before the trip is formally approved. The officials are very careful about who they permit to visit their world. If you’re accepted, you can’t take any luxuries, and no gadgets.

Eryx took the pack and set it aside. He detested having to read through reams of paperwork. To him, it was a complete waste of his time. He’d just find the proverbial dotted line, then get it signed and sent off. It’s not like it’s going to contain any major life-changing information. Probably just a load of hype. But if I know my sister, Chione will have read every word. I can always ask her later. The mysterious world of Dragon’s Lair. I can’t wait. I bet they’re like oversized dogs, and the Draguardians are little more than dog trainers.
