Excerpt:
This time it was the faun who took the lead, daring to press his open lips into Hylaeus' welcoming mouth, to part Hylaeus' lips and quest between them with his tongue. He met no resistance; in point of fact, Hylaeus was all too willing to let Briar taste him, and the breath that escaped him as Briar took a last swipe of his tongue across Hylaeus' lower lip was desperate with longing.
For a moment Briar's bravery deserted him and he could not speak for the bold declarations rising up in his throat. Then he regained a bit of calm and managed to address Hylaeus in a somewhat steady voice: "Do you remember how you treated me when we met for the first time?"
"I remember exchanging words," said Hylaeus in the same steady tone, "and you enlightening me to your faunish brethren's rituals of celebration. And..." He drew breath and exhaled before forging on. "I asked if I could show you how the ways of centaurs differed from your own."
"And you treated me like a lover," Briar said, hardly believing that he could be so forthright. "You—you serviced me. You gratified my selfish desires. For that"—his voice breaking into a half-choked wavering yelp—"I owe you as much as I have to give."

Tempting Fate
By Foxxi Smolder
Briar stole through the forest on hooves of air, trying not to think too hard about what he held in his hands.
The sun had long since set, and his path was shrouded in darkness, but that made little difference to one as acclimated as he to the various confusing snarls and thickets of his forest. Navigation held no challenge to Briar: his senses were keenly attuned to his position on the earth and under the sky. Even in the darkness his passing was swift. This forest, his home, would not bar his journey.
Nor would Briar have let anything prevent him from making this particular assignation. He plunged ahead with single-minded determination, marked by the decisive furrow of his brows—though his eyes, unfocussed and far-away, seemed to look out not on his environment but something else entirely. Against a backdrop of the usual unconscious checks and observations that made sure to steer him in the right direction, his thoughts resembled a cloud of insects, whose myriad little forms coalesced into the shape of a face. That face, with its sunny golden skin and sharp, elegant features, in which two blue eyes were set like twin pearls and framed with lashes the same near-white as the swept-back hair tucked behind the pointed ears, was all Briar could see, all he could think of.
Hylaeus' face. The face of the one for whom he'd
