YES! YOU MADE it at last! You finally summoned the courage to say goodbye to the life of sin, leaving behind the old ways. Simply put, you’re now born-again–regenerated–you’ve made up your mind never to go back to those sinful ways all the rest of your life because you’ve chosen a new life–a life in Christ!

Sincerely, it’s a bold move you made. I’ve walked that road and I can guess how difficult it must have been for you to make that glorious decision to follow Jesus amid the lures of the pleasures of this world. Believe me, you made the wiser and better choice. So, I say a big congratulation to you; the hosts of Heaven celebrate you!

However, it’s possible that since you became born-again, you’ve not yet experienced any dramatic change in your immediate natural world.

Of course you’ve played your part! You’re now in Christ–you’ve dropped the old habits and old friends, and no longer partake in any other vices; you’re clean, so to say; you now spend quality time in church performing various religious functions on a regular basis–you pay tithe, give offerings and have even become a servant to church leaders.

Yet, your life still feels incomplete; you still experience the limitations which befall the unbelievers out there in the world–bankruptcy, ill-health, divorce, single parenting, barrenness, academic backwardness, social irrelevance, unhappiness, addiction to specific harmful habits and substances, and so on. "Whoever is a believer in Christ is a new creation. The old way of living has disappeared. A new way of living has come into existence."

Stop right there! It’s too late to start doubting the potency of God’s Word. Your new nature forbids unbelief.

You must understand, that as a newbie in Christ, you’re like the Crown Prince of a great empire who is ignorant of his royal status. He, therefore, thinks, talks and acts like one of the palace servants; always appearing miserably helpless and at the mercy of everyone–he practically begs his way through life.

As a new convert, there are many things you still need to know about this new life. You need to grow your spiritual personality by building up your knowledge of God’s Word to qualify you for the numerous benefits due to you. But as long as you fail to discover who you are in Christ, you’ll never enjoy the full privileges rightfully accorded to the people of your divine status. You’ll continue to be treated like dirt by the Evil One and his followers. The world will continue to have power and dominion over you.

Secret One: ENLIGHTENMENT

ONE OF THE reasons many new Christians never move up to the level of the elevated ones is because they are not enlightened in matters of the Spirit.

Yes, they confessed their sins, forsook old ways and embraced Jesus as their Lord and personal Savior, but that was it. They never went further than that because they never knew or believed there was more to the regenerated life than the one-time declarations of faith.

However, if you must succeed in the Christian race, if you must overcome the unending temptations of this world and the perpetual attacks of the Evil One and his cohorts, then you must open your heart to learn spiritual principles and how to apply them to real-life issues. You must step out of your comfort zone–the baby in Christ. You must make discoveries and break new grounds. You must identify the right weapons for every spiritual battle of life. You must be prepared and fortified against anything the enemy will throw at you.

While Jesus was with his disciples, they were a bunch of spiritually unenlightened folks. They thought and acted only under the influence of Jesus’ reputation. He wrapped them under his protective wings and life was easy and beautiful for them. He even refused them to fast and he would perform several miracles that made life a better place for them to live in; Jesus turned water to wine, his disciples drank and were merry; he multiplied five loaves and two fish, they ate their fill; he asked Peter to pay their taxes with the money found in the belly of a fish; he even held Peter up and saved him from drowning because Peter couldn’t keep his faith alive even for a minute.

At this time, the disciples were spiritually blind to realities. Consequently, they were limited in many ways, while Jesus was with them; he pampered them. For example, they couldn’t cast out certain demons from a sufferer and they were too afraid of death such that they run for cover when Jesus was arrested. Peter even denied Him–three times.

However, the master was taken away and everything changed. Thereafter the disciples gathered in one place and for once, began to replay all that Jesus had taught them which they had ignorantly treated with kid gloves. Reality had set in and they would have to face the world on their own.

Then they grew because the eyes of their understanding were opened. They began to take charge and dominate the spheres of their influence. They began exercising their faith and in no time, began to perform unspeakable miracles, the kind that Jesus didn’t even perform while he was with them– Peter’s shadow was healing the sick and putting demons on the run and almost all the disciples of Jesus were executed one after the other, but at that time, they were only too glad to die for the glorious cause.

The disciples were able to achieve all these and many more amazing feats which history would never forget for all of eternity because they became fully enlightened.

To become an elevated one of God therefore, you must grow your knowledge of God’s Word. You must study his Word night and day and do everything to become what you’ve learned. Your new life in Christ is not some kind of summer break when you run off to an island and sun-bathing in some beach resort. It’s not the time to stand on the podium and glorify your old life, counting your worldly achievements. It’s the time to broaden your spiritual horizon by digging deep into the truth of the Word of God. The Bible says;

Whatever things are true, whatever things are honest, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good reports …, think on these things. (Philippians 4:8 KJV)

To succeed in your new Christian life, you must build up your spirit with the proper Word of God. This is the only thing that will help you stand the darts of the Evil One and survive every unfavorable condition in your life and family.
