An Anglo/American who has been living in France for nearly 40 years, she began writing as soon as she retired. It is a passion discovered late in life but lived to its fullest. Before retiring, she worked at a variety of jobs. Some of the more interesting have been: Art and Crafts teacher, Bartender, Marketing Assistant for N° 1 World Yacht Charterers (Moorings), Paris Beaux Arts Model, Secretary to the French Haflinger Association. A vegetarian and a supporter of animal rights, she uses words when not protesting in the street. She is an admirer of the British abolitionist, William Wilberforce, who was also a founding member of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (S.P.C.A.).

The fairground atmosphere was exhilarating. The smell of candy floss floated in the air triggering childhood memories. Laughter and the excitement of fairgoers was contagious as Brad and Melanie wove their way in and out of the crowds looking for the next distraction.

The rifle stand didn’t have a queue waiting, so Brad decided to try his luck.

Every hit is a winner! cried out the showman behind the counter.

They could see cheap keyrings and bobbles for one hit, while the prizes progressed in value with the number of targets plugged.

Brad nodded at the stand holder as he passed him his money.

Take any gun you fancy, the man indicated with a sweep of an arm.

Melanie stood at Brad’s left side, fingers crossed that he would win something.

It worked.

Brad couldn’t believe he’d knocked down five out of five of the targets, but he didn’t say anything to Melanie. He turned with a grin as though it were the most natural thing in the world. She returned his grin convinced her crossed fingers had done the trick.

The man on the stand didn’t look too pleased at having to hand over one of their biggest, costliest soft toys. Their guns were deliberately made not to shoot straight, so this young man
