Milly

My needs were always simple.

To be happy and to be free.

Yet I feared I would never be happy or free again because things would never be the same in my life. It’s been a year…no, closer to two years since the unbelievable happened. Before it happened, I thought a vampire takeover was ludicrous.

I was wrong.

With each hopeless day that passes, I lose track of time and all hope is practically gone.

Luckily, if you can call it luck, we received an early warning that the invasion was about to occur.

The vamps had taken New York, New Jersey, and Maryland.

By the time they got to Pennsylvania, most of us had plans in place. But it happened so fast, a lot of folks didn’t have time to act on their plans.

Before the invasion, my mother and I tacked down a throw rug to the top of our storm cellar. The rug was purposely attached a few inches past the hatch so no one
