Chapter One: First Realize Who You Actually Are

I’m willing to bet you’re not who or what you think you are, certainly not if you think you are a sack of skin with bones and muscles arranged inside and that your brain creates your consciousness. The truth is you are much, much more. The real you—the inner winner and god-like creature you actually are—is immortal and has likely been around for at least 200,000 years and probably much longer. I state this based on indisputable evidence uncovered by researchers at the Division of Perceptual Studies at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, researchers that have determined the brain does not create consciousness. Rather, the brain is a wireless receiver that captures consciousness and integrates it with the body. The real you is nonphysical. You are in fact consciousness itself.

It’s true that the brain is involved with thinking, but according to Dr. Bruce Greyson, Professor of Psychiatric Medicine and Carlson Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry & Neurobehavioral Sciences at UVa Medical School, the brain does not cause or create thoughts. He says that what brain scans show, for example, are correlations, rather than causation. The truth is that thoughts, perceptions, and memories, occur somewhere else and then are received and processed by the brain in a way similar to how a television, cell phone, or radio receiver works. This means the real you is a god-like creature whose actual, permanent home is a nonphysical dimension. Your current body and brain form a vehicle that transports you—a nonphysical being—into this four dimensional (height, width, depth, time), physical reality we call Earth.

Dr. Greyson notes in lectures he has given on this subject that the idea the mind and the brain are separate is what most people believed until a couple of hundred years ago, but in the nineteenth century, science in the western world began exploring the idea that the physical brain might be the source of thoughts and consciousness. Ironically, as life scientists attempted to explain consciousness in terms of Newtonian physics, physicists were forced to move away from Newton’s laws and develop quantum mechanics in order to explain phenomena in which consciousness—what a researcher knows or doesn’t know—completely changes the results of certain experiments. In another book, The Truth About Life and How You Can Make Yours the Best of All, I go into detail about one such experiment that involves shooting photons through two slits onto a screen. Here, however, I will l give a brief summary.

What the researcher conducting the experiment knows or does not know completely changes in predictable ways the pattern the photons make. Noble-winning physicist Richard Feynman [1918-1988] called this the central mystery of quantum mechanics, that something as intangible as knowledge—in this case what slit a photon
