About this ebook
Rachel woke up in her bed. Sitting up, she looked around her room. She rubbed her eyes, remembering that she had left the light on before falling asleep. She saw her hardwood floor, saw the jeans and shirt that she had thrown off and tossed on the floor beside her bed. Breathing heavily and feeling the sweat soaking her nightshirt, she threw herself back against her pillows.
"Just a dream," she whispered to herself, looking at the small television set that was sitting on top of the entertainment center across from her bedroom, moving her eyes to her computer on the computer desk that her father had built her.

Murder Mystery - J.K. Kline
Just a dream,
she whispered to herself, looking at the small television set that was sitting on top of the entertainment center across from her bedroom, moving her eyes to her computer on the computer desk that her father had built her.
When she was calm enough to make it out of bed without feeling like she was going to drop to her knees, she threw the white covers off her. Feeling a little cold and wondering if the heat was out, she went down the hall to the bathroom, turned on the light and looked at herself in the mirror.
Rachel's face was red, her blue eyes looked scared. After the nightmare that she had had, she could imagine why she would be scared. Just moving into a new house and never having seen that park in her life, she didn't know what to think about the dream she had.
There was a knock on the bathroom door and Rachel walked over to answer it. Putting her hand on the doorknob, she almost screamed when the door opened.
What are you doing up so late?
her brother Eric asked her as he looked into the bathroom.
I was just getting ready to go back to bed,
she whispered to him.
Like Rachel, Eric had blonde hair and blue eyes. He was taller than she was by a few inches. Wearing a gray pair of sweat pants and a white t-shirt he looked her over, almost as if studying her.
You had another nightmare didn't you?
Eric asked with worry in his eyes.
Maybe,
Rachel shrugged her shoulders, not really wanting to talk about it. She looked at her the clock above the mirror and saw that it was two in the morning.
I'm telling Mom,
Eric stated.
Don't tell her anything. You know she's going to make me go back to that counselor and I don't want to,
Rachel glared at him.
That's the only way you are going to find out why you are having dreams of people dying,
Eric pointed a finger at her.
Don't tell her,
Rachel muttered, pushing past him and heading back to her bedroom.
I would shut your alarm off, it’s snowing so hard out there I don't think that we are going to have any school today,
Eric predicted as he watched her disappear into her bedroom and shut her door tightl without looking back at him.
Eric shook his head, wondering when Rachel's nightmares were going to end. He remembered they started a few years ago, after their father had been killed when he went to the store to get gas and a pack of cigarettes. He walked in on a robbery; the robber was wearing a mask and turned around without even thinking and started shooting bullets into their dad until he was on the store floor, dead, blood coming from his head and chest.
Rachel had been with him; she had wanted to go along for the ride. She didn't know what had happened until someone came running out of the store in a black ski mask. She saw the robber run past the truck and disappear into the night. She didn't know what was going on until she heard cop sirens and saw at least three police cars pull into the gas station. It was a night that she was never going to forget. She would never forget the scene when the ambulance showed up to take their dad out of the store on a stretcher. He wasn’t moving, and his eyes were open and glazed over.
Eric remembered Rachel coming home after their mother went to go get her. As soon as she got the call about what happened and found out that Rachel was still at the store, she ran out the door and got into her car, taking just a few minutes to get to the store because it had been
