Democracy and How to Solve It
()
About this ebook
An obvious problem with democracy is the belief that the majority opinion is somehow the best one. Many examples exist in human history, where the majority clearly held a false belief or made a very bad decision through voting. From the banal example of the earth being flat, to the election of completely incapable or just plain crazy leaders. Even Socrates, more than 400 years before the Common Era, made a valid point is that voting in an election is a skill, not a random intuition. And like any skill, it needs to be taught systematically to people. Otherwise, Socrates explains, democracy will turn into a system the Greeks feared above all, demagoguery.
Exactly what Socrates feared and predicted is happening today around the world. People who have not thought about issues rationally and deeply, are the ones making decisions in a voting booth, and those decisions then affect everyone. This allows demagogues , who are completely unqualified to lead, to dazzle those unthinking voters with lies and nonsense in order to then win elections.
This booklet describes a simple, yet very effective 3-step plan to solve the problem of democracy.
