About this ebook

Four of today’s most intriguing paranormal authors entice readers deep into the shadows, where vampires, immortals, and other supernatural creatures heat up the night...

On The Hunt by Alexandra Ivy

Mika Tanner has loved Bailey Morrell, a beautiful Healer, since childhood. But his duty as a Sentinel, a supernatural guardian of an ancient race, clashed with her rebellious spirit. Now a dangerous new anarchist group not only threatens life as they know it—but any chance of their being together again...

Scorpius Rising by Rebecca Zanetti

With a deadly disease spreading like wildfire across the country, microbiologist Nora Medina needs to focus all her energy on stopping the pandemic. Playing with dynamite—in the form of her way-too-hot ex—is the last thing she should be doing. But forced to work with Deacan McDougall against unexpected enemies with the seconds ticking by, she knows the explosion is coming...

Phantom Embrace by Dianne Duvall

Immortal Yuri Sokolov was born with the ability to see spirits, yet he's never seen one as lovely as Cat Seddon, the woman who haunts his home and his dreams. But amid their star-crossed love, a new danger may have Yuri facing a different kind of eternity.

Stake Out by Hannah Jayne

Vampire fashion designer Nina LaShay has a lot on her plate—just two days until fashion week and the model who was flirting with her photographer boyfriend is now a corpse in her studio. But when dead turns into undead and dangerous, Nina must find out who’s responsible…before the beautiful baby vamp takes too many bites out of the Big Apple.

Review courtesy of Dark Faerie TalesQuick & Dirty: Four novellas, three from established series filled with magic, vampires and ghosts!Opening Sentence: “It’s no surprise that the history of the high-bloods had been lost in the midst of time.”The Review:On the Hunt: Mika Tanner is investigating the disappearance of a novice and it leads him to the doorstep of the one woman he doesn’t want to see. Bailey and Mika were in love during childhood, but she ran away from responsibility while Mika embraced his duty as a hunter Sentinel. Bailey is a healer hiding out when the novice turns up on her doorstep. She heals him and tries to hide him only to have him run away later. Mika wonders why the boy left Bailey’s and worries that she could be hurt. When the novice turns back up wounded again and Bailey is taken, will Mika be able to find her and save her.I have not read any of the Sentinel’s series, but I found this novella easy to read and follow without the normal confusion that takes place when you jump into the middle of the story. It was a fast paced and easy read, and since I liked Mika and Bailey so much it’s kind of interested me in reading the series!Scorpius Rising: Nora and Deacan used to be married, but went their separate ways years ago, but clearly the attraction and love is still there. Deacan has Nora extracted from her Hawaiian vacation because of a new contagion and she is one of the foremost microbiologists around. As they race against time to find a cure, will they survive to find love again?I have to say that hands down this was my favorite novella, it was almost like a standalone mini novel! I was on the edge of my seat and more than slightly disappointed when I reached the end of the story, just because I wanted so much more! This short story reminded me why I use to love short stories so much. This had more of a science fiction feel than paranormal, but it was so good, it just sucked you right in and at the end you wanted to immediately get on Goodreads and see if the author had a novel about these characters.Phantom Embrace: Yuri is an immortal with the ability to see the dead, which is a good thing because Cat just happens to be a ghost. As they spend more and more time together Cat and Yuri begin to fall in love, and when tragedy strikes will they be able to make it through?I am slightly familiar with the Immortal series, so I wasn’t lost with this novella at all. I thought it was an interesting take on a love story to have a vampire in love with a ghost and I really wondered how the author was going to work that all out. No, I am not going to tell you but it was a great short story that fits within the books already out.Stake Out: Nina is getting ready for fashion week, when models start dying. With the help of her brother Vlad, can they figure out what is going on? Nina and Vlad are vampires and also belong to the Underworld Detection Agency. When Wendii turns up a vampire, Nina knows this case isn’t going to be an easy situation.I have read one of the Underworld Detection Agency books, but not sure where this one falls into the situation. I think out of all the novellas this one might be the hardest to follow if you’re not already reading this series. It was a quick read and interesting murder vampire mystery.Normally I am not a big anthology fan, I used to enjoy them quite a bit, and then with so many series around it was hard to follow the short stories, or if I was familiar with the author I would find myself frustrated that I didn’t know the characters. However, I enjoyed this one quite a bit. My favorite story was Scorpius Rising, mostly because it didn’t belong to a series and so it read like a real short story with a beginning and end. So if you are looking for a few short stories to pass your time with then check this book out!!!Notable Scene:“She had several talents, but lying wasn’t one of them.”“The situation sucked, but the rightness of the moment dug deep into Deke’s gut and took hold.”“Science is about saving lives, and we both know that the military will want to weaponize and further mutate the bacteria.”“The statistics of the infected, crazy, and dead were going to give her nightmares.”FTC Advisory: Zebra/Kensington provided me with a copy of On the Hunt. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review.

    1) On the Hunt by Alexandra Ivy tells (The Sentinels 2.5) This is a second chance at love story for Mika and Bailey. They separated 10 years before but never forgot one another and their chemistry is just as strong when they meet again as Mika, a Sentinel Hunter, is sent out to track another sentinel. Bailey is a healer and her talent draws her into trouble that Mika might be in time to save her from. 2) Scorpius Rising by Rebecca Zanetti(Scorpius Rising 0.5)The reason I was eager to get my hands on this anthology was that I had read Corpius Striking and wanted to read the backstory. This is mostly the story of Nora and Deke though there are a number of characters introduced that end up in Scorpius Striking. 3) Phantom Embrace by Dianne Duvall(Immortal Guardians 2.5)I have not read any of the other books in this series and found the introduction and mention of so many names a bit daunting. I kind of skipped most of them to get to the story of Yuri and Cat and did enjoy reading of their story – one of an immortal and a ghost. 4) Stake Out by Hannah Joyce(Underworld Detection Agency 6.5) I have not read any of this author’s books before. This story is about a fashion designer vampire, her vampire brother and her were-bird boyfriend. The mystery of who is one-upping Nina and who is killing/turning fashion models into vampires is the basic plot. The stories were varied and interesting but not seat of your chair grab you and not let you go stories. I enjoyed Scorpius Rising most and thank NetGalley and Kensington Books for the ARC to read and review.3.5 Stars

*Book source ~ NetGalleyOn The Hunt by Alexandra Ivy ~ 3 bites and a nibbleSentinel Mika Tanner and healer Bailey Morrell were once a couple, but their differences split them up. Years later an incident with a Sentinel in training and dangerous enemy bring them together again. Can they make it work this time around? While I like this story, I didn’t like it as much as the other two I’ve read in the Sentinel series. I just didn’t have a connection with the characters and while I like Bailey, I thought Mika was too overbearing. He comes across as an ass of the first order.Scorpius Rising by Rebecca Zanetti ~ DNF 2 bites for the pandemic partMicrobiologist Nora Medina and her team have been kidnapped by their government in an effort to stem a pandemic. Too bad her ex-husband Deacan McDougall is head of the black ops that are keeping them secure. I’m not a fan of old relationships being rekindled, but the pandemic part made it interesting. Unfortunately, I discovered in Chapter 5 that Deacan had been in the Marines long after the author had called him a soldier multiple times. A Marine is a Marine (and it’s capitalized!) and soldiers are Army. I’m not interested in reading about a Marine being called a soldier, it pisses me off, so I stopped right there. Phantom Embrace by Dianne Duvall ~ 5 bitesImmortal Guardian Yuri Sokolov can see spirits and he’s been obsessed with one he keeps seeing around. Cat Seddon has been a spirit for a very long time, but there’s something about Yuri that draws her. An immortal and a spirit, what kind of relationship are they going to have? Only one way to find out.I love, love, love the Immortal Guardian series and this short story (#5.5) is a wonderful and unique addition to a really great line up. Even though it’s short it lacks nothing in development and has all of the trademarks I love from the longer books: humor, suspense, steaminess, romance, mystery, awesome action and I mentioned the humor, right? The ending is both heart wrenching and heartwarming. Don’t skip this one when making your way through the series.Stake Out by Hannah Jayne ~ No rating This series no longer interests me, so I didn’t read it.

I initially read this book as part of the On The Hunt Anthology. The Sentinels is on my favorite series list so this novella was a treat for me. Loved Mika's single-minded focus on Bailey and on his mission at the same time. This Sentinel knows what he wants and nothing is going to stop him from going after it.

ARC provided in exchange for an honest review.

**I was given an ARC by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.**--------------------------------------Four of today’s most intriguing paranormal authors entice readers deep into the shadows, where vampires, immortals, and other supernatural creatures heat up the night...--------------------------------------I requested this book because of Alexandra Ivy. I've read the majority of her work, and love it. To be honest I didn't even realize there were 4 stories in this I thought it was just 2 until after I finished the first story and was curious as to why my kindle said I was only 26% finished! lolOn the Hunt did not disappoint. A strong (stubborn) hero paired with an equally strong (stubborn) heroine leads to an explosive adventure during which they both realize they had some growing up to do before they could approach the life they had hoped to have with understanding.Scorpius Rising pairs another dynamic duo who have "alpha" issues in a race against nature & time. Each has their own desired outcome for the research that is being done. Can they work out their differences? It took me a few pages to figure out what was going on in Phantom Embrace, but once I did the read was well worth it. Yuri & Cat have a relationship unlike any I'd read about before which kept me going through the whole of their story.Stake Out was a quick, fun read with a mysterious twist - no romance here, but a great read just the same. It proves that jealousy doesn't end with death. ;)
