Zoe Miller

Zoe Miller is a hyperactive thing with too much anxiety. She writes a lot of stories; some of them are good. She thinks wizards are pretty cool. She wishes she could own a dog (she also likes cats, but they don't like her!) She's pretty good at writing down words, but terrified of self-promotion.

They were sitting on their favorite grassy knoll overlooking the Promenade, shaded by Serene’s wings and sharing a bowl of freshly cut watermelon as they watched the traffic go by. Tess sat nestled in Serene’s lap, still hiccuping from time to time after her second glass of wine—an uncharacteristic indulgence, but she needed the courage for…

For you my dear? With the weekend looming? Serene popped a bit of watermelon in her mouth, speaking as she chewed, the clear liquid glistening down her chin. You could ask a world of favors.

Oh, great! Tess straightened her spine, suppressed a hiccup. So it’s not a big deal. Really not a big deal. Despite that, she thought better of it, ducked her head and, poking her fingers together. But could you maybe… help me clean up my shop tomorrow morning?

Not a big deal. Serene’s mood spun a full revolution; suspicion clouded her face. Last time I helped you with something like that I almost got turned into a toad.

    Almost! Tess countered. Only almost!

You know what they say. Serene replied, through narrowed lips and with equally narrowed eyes. "Almost only counts in horseshoes and your girlfriend almost turning you into a toad."

Tess clasped her hands in supplication, crocodile tears glistening at the end of her long lashes. Serene, please? My Journeywoman’s review, for my alchemy certification, is tomorrow and a cluttered shop is, like, an immediate ten point deduction.
