The Dag Gadol: Jonah and the Whale

About this ebook
There were earlier civilizations that experienced and lived destinies. They understood the destinies and lived it. That you have neither read nor understand them does not amount to their nonexistence. They existed.
Though reasonable people understand that hearsay testimonies are worthless, some Holy Book believers have used the New Testament reference to Jonah, a hearsay, as evidence that a whale, they mistakenly defined as a "fish," swallowed up an adult human being. Perhaps you've heard of the movie Jaws. This was no movie. Some say it was/is a myth. Incontrovertible science evidence says anyone in the belly of a whale would suffocate to death for lack of oxygen. A whale swallowed a human; can you see the anthropomorphism? Anthropomorphism and zoomorphism were some of the best methods to paint or represent an unknown object of discussion. It was the best vocabulary available to them at that time. A submarine scooping a human is akin to a whale that swallowed Jonah.
Perhaps our perception of the past is not what it should be. Perhaps our perceptive truth of the past is jaundiced. Perhaps our knowledge of the past has been erroneously prioritized by the academics. Why would the academics do this? Remember that he who pays the piper dictates the tune.
Obviously, we have been conditioned by the academics to accept that our civilization is better than earlier civilizations, therefore making it hard even to contemplate that there could have been better technologies in submarines before today. We are conditioned to totally accept that we are the center of the universe and the supreme beings of living things.

Jonah 1:1–3
Jonah Attempts to Run Away from God
––––––––
Now the word of the Lord came to Jonah son of Amittai, saying, ²Go at once to Nineveh, that great city, and cry out against it; for their wickedness has come up before me.
³But Jonah set out to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord. He went down to Joppa and found a ship going to Tarshish; so he paid his fare and went on board, to go with them to Tarshish, away from the presence of the Lord.
Preface
––––––––
It is likely that you’ve heard or read Jonah’s story. If you heard it from an ardent Christian, the story will signify lessons and other meanings invented and ascribed to make the story look like, indeed, it was a miracle performed by God.
Christians would be quick to tell you that the book of Jonah is filled with so much valuable information and timeless lessons. Having read the story, I agree that the story is filled with valuable information about past civilizations, and there are timeless lessons we could draw from them.
When Christians talk about the book of Jonah, they want to force this miracle
story down the psyche of anyone listening or reading the narrative. Whether they throw common sense away when preaching this miracle
is not the question because they truly and faithfully believe in the narrative.
If there is doubt because the story alleges that Jonah was swallowed by a sea monster/creature and therefore, pure fiction, it is because, finally, people are beginning to use reason rather than accept faith as evidence.
There is one peculiar diversion some use in the attempt to convince the listener that Jonah’s story is real. They go to Matthew 12:39–41 and repeat a quote attributed to Jesus Christ. In other words, if Jesus confirmed it, it must be true. Whether they care if the listener is a convinced believer that Jesus was a historicized figure matters not to them.
Today, there are a few individuals who cite some incredible story to assert that it is possible to survive three days in the belly of a fish/whale. They cite the story of a happening near the Falkland Islands where they assert that a seaman was swallowed by a large sperm whale. After three days, the man was recovered, unconscious but alive. This story, like the Jonah story it struggles to confirm, is unconfirmed; therefore, not credible.
Here is a different perspective. Science says Jonah cannot survive in the belly of a fish/whale. Religion says it can happen, and it happened with Jonah, and it was a miracle. If the two sides are correct, then who is wrong? Read the third perspective, and you’d be surprised at the blinders we have been forced to wear. This short narrative is not about who is right or wrong or whether the story is fiction or myth. The story about this story is in its misinterpretation of Jonah and the dag gadol.
