About this ebook

In this urban fantasy, a malevolent force seeks to destroy a succubus as she struggles to be a bridesmaid in her ex’s wedding.

Georgina Kincaid has formidable powers. Immortality, seduction, shapeshifting into any human form she desires, walking in heels that would cripple mere mortals—all child’s play to a succubus like her…

Helping to plan her ex-boyfriend’s wedding is a different story. Georgina isn’t sure which is worse—that Seth is marrying another woman, or that Georgina has to run all over Seattle trying on bridesmaid dresses. Still, there are distractions. Georgina’s roommate, Roman, is cluttering her apartment with sexual tension. Then there’s Simone, the new succubus in town, who’s intent on corrupting Seth.

But the real danger lies in the mysterious force that’s visiting her thoughts, trying to draw her into a dark, otherworldly realm. Sooner or later, Georgina knows she’ll be too weak to resist. And when that happens, she’ll discover who she can trust, who she can’t—and that Hell is far from the worst place to spend eternity…

Well since I'm into this series for the romance and not necessarily the characters, though i think some of them are cool, it's certainly been a rollercoaster. But all i can say is yay for several things that happened. Now i just need to read the last one to finish it off and hopefully it will all end how i want it to.

4-4.5 stars for Succubus Shadows, book 5 in the Georgina Kincaid series. I enjoyed this story, and am deducting a star for the slow pace during the dream sequences, and I'm not sure how I feel about the ending yet.

This book is not nearly as dark as Succubus Heat, and it feels like the series is winding down. This book was satisfying in that it addresses/answers some questions that have been hovering throughout the series. And it will be interesting to see how Georgina handles the curveball thrown at her in the ending.

Through some dream sequences we get to see more of Georgina's past, as well as spy on her friends while she is not around. I was happy to see more Roman in this book, and Georgina's other friends Carter, Erik, Peter, and Cody with a love interest. Carter is more mysterious than usual in this one.

Lots of Seth drama, and it looks like more to come! Can't wait to read the next installment.

I have no idea where Mead is taking this series, and if it's towards a Seth Georgina ending, I'll hurl.

This was perhaps the slowest and least mysterious of all of them so far. You get some good backstory for Georgina and all of her personalities though.

Excellent! So many hints were dropped that I didn't catch the first time I read it and reading it again shames me that I was so clueless ;) I love how everything is progressing and can't wait to see how everything is resolved.

Georgina doesn't seem to get a break. After dealing with numerous life threatening events--in not even a year--our favorite succubus has a new problem: planning a marriage. But this isn't just any marriage, mind you. This is a marriage that she secretly wishes would not transpire. It doesn't end there, though. She's now being stalked by a mysterious "siren's song." This strange presence only seems to approach her when she's at her lowest, and provides a sense of escape from her depression with promises of warmth and support. Yet, even with this aura attempting to lure her through some sort of dimensional gate, Georgina's wary. For good reason.Initially, I thought that Richelle was losing her touch because the start to Succubus Shadows was too slow for my tastes. It seemed as if it was the same issues we saw Georgina struggling with in the last book--Seth proposing to another woman coupled with her inability to cope--were being overdone. But once you get past the slow start, the new direction taken is redeemed in my eyes.Powerful doesn't give this book justice. Georgina's struggles (emotional and moral) are not only believable but also moving. I even found myself empathizing with the the poor immortal suffering from depression. If you had to deal with all the paranormal issues she dealt with, and witness the person you were madly in love with parading around with their new significant other, I'm pretty sure you'd be feeling pretty bummed out too. I know I'd be ready to demand a vacation. With that said, I may be the only one, but I'm not a huge fan of Seth anymore. I don't want to see Georgina's life keep going "in circles"--which is something readers are shown through a series of dreams from Georgie's past. I want to see her embrace her life, even if embracing said life means attempting a relationship with another immortal. Maybe someone like... Roman! The cliffhanger Mead ends Succubus Shadows with made me want to scream. Not out of frustration, but simply because I want to know why. I have my suspicions now about Seth, but I think I'm looking too into the text, when in actuality, the answer could be simpler. If you've read the first four Georgina Kincaid books, then you will not want to miss out on Succubus Shadows. You will not be disappointed--and if you're like me, you'll be dying for the next book.

***SPOILERS AHEAD***Honestly, this book was going to get 4 stars from me up until the very end--although I put off reading it for awhile, completely sick of Georgina's woe-is-me schtick and her annoying infatuation with schlubby Seth. But, and maybe it was because I wasn't expecting anything from it, it was a fast, entertaining read, and I was fully prepared to give it 4 stars. Until the end. Ugh. Circles...circles...circles...no shit. You're just figuring this crap out, 1700 years later? So...let me see if I have this right...Georgina falls in love with good, kind, artistic types, and it always ends bad for these men. Usually really bad. I'm sure Georgina, in all her centuries of wisdom, has heard of Albert Einstein? He who coined the phrase "Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." So, my question is, are each of these men from her past, and Seth, reincarnations of her husband, Kyriakos? Or just random suckers? And to me, breaking this pattern, this circle would obviously mean breaking her pattern of being attracted to shining good artists, and maybe seeing love out there for herself with a certain slightly sociopathic nephilim? Just an idea. And honestly, Mead better have a crazy 11th hour twist, because if this series ends the way it looks like it's going to, she is a not-so-great storyteller, what with all the clue-by-fours being banged over my head. Does this woman not read message boards? Does she not know that 75%, if not more, of this series' readers DON'T want Georgina to end up with Seth? Ugh.And while we're on the subject of who we do want her to end up with, who neutered Roman? You don't need to write him acting completely out of character and totally emasculated to get across the idea to us stupid readers that he still has feeling for Georgina. Or maybe Mead does read message boards, and she's trying to make us not like Roman anymore? Hmmm...

I really enjoyed this book for the most part. Of course, it was someone else attacking Georgina, but it was nice to see more of her past through it. It was enlightening to the reason she does the things she does.I was pissed off at Seth, for running off the way he did. Sure he thought it was the right things to do, but it wasn't. I'm looking forward to the next book to see what happens next.

Georgina Kincaid still refuses to accept her lot in life and has hopes of some day settling down with that certain someone and having a loving family (really a difficult proposition for a Succubus). She still struggles with trying to be an upbeat person and her association with Demons, Angels and other non-humans is fraught with risk and certainly depressing ramifications. This story is particularly hard on our favorite Succubus and Georgina barely escapes with her life energy barely intact. Her friends (both human and non-human) are a motley but, lovable group that could possible be found. Even the Demon who is in charge of her section of hell has his better moments and may be showing evidence of favoring Ms. Kincaid. Another lovely romp through the Seattle area with a side trip to Mexico for comic relief. Can't help but love this character, after all she is a Succubus!

SPOILERS AHEAD ---Don’t read if you don’t want to get upset with me.It’s 2am on a Thursday morning, and I am utterly frustrated after finishing yet another Richelle Mead mind boggling novel after recently finishing Iron Crowned. I am totally sick of Georgina, and wish she would evaporate somehow and go away. Seriously! Her righteous indignation and mood swings have worn me out to the point that I feel like I’ve been drinking for a month, when in actuality, I haven’t had a sip in a decade or more! I’m surprised any of her immortal friends can still stand her bitching and moaning and all things Seth and Maddie related.Kincaid, as we all know, is Seattle's resident succubus, one who was given powers of immortality, and an eternity of seduction on wayward men. She was once a human, (Letha), who betrayed her husband (Kyriakos), with another man, and then decided to sell her soul to Hell, thus nullifying everyone’s memories of her, which we see in a dream sequence later in the book.Over the last two books, it has become a question of whether or not Niphon, the Imp who got Kincaid to sell her soul after screwing her husband, actually did her contract right, or was there an error that allows her an out? This question becomes even more puzzling when Erik, magic user and store owner Kincaid likes, is slain by an unknown demon/human, who the hell knows, and says there are two contracts.Kincaid is still dealing with the fact that her best friend Maddie Sato, is set to marry Seth Mortensen, author and ex-lover who she had sex with while he and Maddie were together. After a drunken party, Kincaid agrees to go wedding dress shopping with Maddie. Yeah, I would totally do that wouldn’t you if I still had feelings for the dumbass that broke up with me? That same night, she finds herself being lured by a siren song. She feels the pull and wants to run to whatever is responsible. It won’t be the first time it happens to her either. Of course, Jerome, the uber demon, and fallen Angel, is clueless to what is happening around him, which he should be since Hell is looking to replace is sorry ass for what happened in Succubus Heat. She finds herself having a different opinion about Jerome’s “sociopathic” nephilim son Roman. Roman actually seems more likable and personable and caring towards Georgina this time around. Roman, I truly was hoping that you could kick some sense into GK’s head. Seriously, I was. Then again, Ms. Mead loves torturing her readers with this kind of three-way relationship nonsense. (Think Rose/Adrian/Dmitri and Eugenie/Kiyo/Dorian.)On top of that, a visiting succubus, Simone, is in town and doing everything she can to corrupt Seth and his soul, including posing as Georgina. Then again, his soul, as Hugh tells GK, is already corrupted after he and GK had sex behind Maddie’s back! When everything gets to be too much for her to deal with, including kissing Roman, Georgina gives into the siren song, and disappears. She finds herself in a box, and under the control of the Oneroi. This is all because Georgina helped the angels capture Nyx, their so called mother. The Oneroi torture Georgina through her dreams, sometimes showing her truths, sometimes showing her lies, and sometimes showing her a mixture of the two, including watching as her friends run around with like chickens with their heads cut off, trying to find out where she went.It is through these dreams that she is able to see the progress her friends make in finding her. And that is how she sees that Simone is impersonating Georgina to get to Seth. Jerome, Erik, Carter, and Roman learn a way that they could try to save Georgina. Jerome grabs Seth after he reveals that he knows that Simone is impersonating Georgina, and goes with him to help try to rescue Georgina. We learn then that Simone has been working with Niphon, and as Jerome tells her to be gone and to tell Niphon that his actions are having the opposite effect of what he desires.Erik finds a way to rescue GK, but Seth is the key somehow. Seth, Jerome and Carter step into a circle, and Seth is able to reach Georgina through all the different souls and dreams, which everyone, including Erik, Jerome and Mei said was impossible. When she comes back, she is in the body of her original self Letha, and demands the right to kill the Oneroi. Jerome does the honors since he’s supposed to be the uber-demon in charge of GK and the others, which leads to a confrontation with a Morphean Demon.Later after she finally wakes from sleeping for three days, and it appears that Roman and she are getting closer, Maddie shows up at her apartment saying that Seth broke off their engagement, and disappeared. Nobody, not even his brother or wife, who we find out is dying of cancer, knows where he is.Georgina goes to Jerome and calls in the favor that he owes her; sending her to Seth and giving her three days with him. She finds Seth on the beach and, despite Seth's declaration that he wasn't returning to Seattle, they fall back into the relaxed relationship they had while they were dating. In the heat of passion, they start to get into sex, but Georgina pulls back. She's confused and still doesn't want to hurt him. That night, while Seth is sleeping, Georgina realizes that she can't see this cynical, pessimistic side to Seth and leaves, leaving a note saying that she loves him too much to stay. Georgina gets a call from Erik, where she finds the inside of the store destroyed, the windows broken, and Erik, bloody and broken, behind the counter. Before he dies, by GK’s kiss as he requested, he tells her something shocking: There’s two contracts, and he makes her promise to find the second one. In the end, Seth and GK’s interlude on the beaches of Mexico are caught by a photographer, and Maddie finds out. Needless to say, she walks out and quits the bookstore, and the act alienates everyone who works in the bookstore. Carter tells GK that miracles do in fact, happen, and that it is up to her to choose her destiny. She makes a decision, one that Roman can clearly see and is truly disappointed, and runs to Seth where they have monkey sex and she drains his energy. Shockingly, however, he calls her Letha, a name that he shouldn’t have any business knowing.Good parts: Cody, the vampire, finally has a girlfriend! Roman’s character has, in my opinion, become someone you can route for. It’s just too bad that Georgina is stuck in Seth mode, and doesn’t see what’s right in front of her. Bad part: Simone, the intrusive succubus who just happens to be in Seattle, and supposingly spying on Jerome, when in all reality, she was trying to lure Seth into signing away his soul.Theory of the book: Seth is actually Kyriakos reincarnated. Why do I say that? Well, think, about those she loved in the past, and the fact that Nyx showed her a future that includes her being human, and with a little girl who is clearly hers. Then the demons, who kidnapped her, show her that Seth is the man in Nyk’s vision. Besides, why else would he have her real name?Overall, I will be extremely happy when this story wraps itself up, and the Seth and Georgina merry go round ride comes to a crashing end.

This is the fifth book in the Georgina Kincaid series and it did not disappoint. Let me start by saying I’m so happy to see Roman return. I know he’s bad but I can’t help but love him. I’m still rooting for Carter as the man Georgina will end up with. Unlikely I know but I can hope right?Succubus Shadows contained lots and lots of Georgie flashbacks in the form of dreams. I think this book really helped me to understand where Richelle Mead is going with this series but also left me with many unanswered questions. Why is Carter so invested in Georgina’s life? What is up with the bond between Seth and Georgina? Why is Jerome obsessed with John Cusack ;) Ok I’ll be serious now and try to give my opinion on this book without giving too much away. It’s going to be hard because I have so many theories and ideas about what is happening bouncing around in my head. It’s disheartening to see how long Georgina has struggled with her role as succubus. She is quite the romantic at heart. Not a characteristic that normally goes hand in hand with someone who seduces men and steals their life force for a living. Her whole reason for becoming a succubus was so altruistic it doesn’t seem fair she will spend an eternity as one of hell’s minions. Yes, I’m aware that her poor choices led to her becoming a succubus but how many of us would sign our souls over to hell in order to fix something that hurt the ones we love? From the flashbacks in this installment it really shows how Georgina seems to be reliving a recurring cycle so to speak. Continually being drawn to artsy (coincidence?) men that she can’t be with for one reason or another. She has definitely experienced more than her share of heartbreak over the course of her immortal life. This book was definitely a fabulous addition to the Georgina Kincaid series. I can’t believe there will only be one more book in this series and that we have to wait an entire year for it to be published. Waiting sucks!

This is the fifth book in the Georgina Kincaid series by Richelle Mead. As far as I know, six books are planned for this series. This was an excellent addition to the series, in fact I think it was the best book in the series so far!Georgina has a lot going on. She is forced into helping her best friend Maggie plan a wedding with her ex, Seth. She is trying to learn to deal with having Roman for a roommate, and there is another Succubus in town on vacation that is making Georgina's life miserable because the visiting succubus keeps hitting on Seth. Of course all those problems are nothing compared to what's been happening to Georgina at night. Whenever Georgina gets a little depressed she starts hearing music that lures her away from wakefulness, when she comes back to she finds herself in dangerous situations. These periods of unawareness are getting progressively worse and Georgina is getting scared about what will happen if she is lured all of the way away. This was a great book, there is so much going on and the story was wonderful. Mead is an excellent writing and does a great job creating both a tight plot and wonderful characterization. The book was really engaging and super hard to put down. I stayed up late a couple nights in a row because I just couldn't stop reading.Georgina spends a good part of this book trapped in a dream state where she is forced to relive a lot of her past. This was awesome to read about because I love learning more about Georgina's past; the history and settings are always so interesting, and it always shows you new aspects of her personality. That was again true, we learn more about how Georgina has served as a succubus and about when she started to tire of her role.Roman is in this book a lot and plays a pretty big role; he is a great character so it was good to see more of him. Of course Seth and Georgina are trying to stay apart like normal. Seth's extended family also features some in this book. The mystery around Georgina's contract with Hell is brought up again and there are some hints at what the resolution to that might be as you get towards the end of the book. This book does a great job of wrapping up the main storyline of Georgina's mysterious black-outs. It also does a great job of setting things up for the next, and supposed, final book. I think things are really in a good place to answer some final questions in book 6. They are questions that won't surprise anyone: will Georgina and Seth ever get to stay together? Is there a loop hole in Georgina's contract with Hell? I am really wishing that I had the 6th book to read right now! A wonderful addition to this series, I loved it.

I have been thoroughly enjoying this series and am really thankful that all of the books are already released and I've had a nice little gap in my reading schedule where I have been able to fit these in and just read and read and read. I love Georgina our main character. She is feisty and confident and oh yes she's a succubus. While she is an employee of Hell basically she has a way of really just bringing up the people around her and even though she needs to steal life energy during sex in order to survive she would prey on and bad men to get her energy instead of corrupting the ones that are more pure. She made a deal in the first book to protects her boyfriend at the time Seth memory OF who she is and the knowledge of the supernatural world that most people in this book don't know about. She also went off the rails after Seth broke up with her. One of her friends Hugh had put in Seth's mind that he is not the one that is going to ultimately suffer from the relationship. Georgina would because he's a mortal and Georgina's already terrified of something happening to him and knowing that he will die and once he's gone after loving like that she would hurt and carry that hurt around for a long long time. This book basically picks up where her best friend Maddie is asking for her help and planning her and Seth's wedding. Mattie you like most people had no idea that Georgina and Seth used to date because they kept it a secret from a lot of the people they were around at the time and Georgia and then it just kept being friends even though Georgina was so hurt at Seth breaking up with her. After finally getting to see Georgina and Seth make love in the last book when Jerome was summoned and the immortals in Seattle were in a holding pattern they were still immortal but they lost their powers so Georgina could be with him without stealing his life energy. Georgina convinced him that their relationship wouldn't work especially now that she was back to being a succubus and urged him to go back to his relationship with Maddie because she could tell that Seth really cared for Maddie and she wanted them to have every chance to be happy. because of a relationship with her meant being in the middle of cosmic battles and putting his life in danger and abstinence because she doesn't want to end up stealing his life energy. So basically right after that conversation he went and proposed to Maddie. It was really hard on me to see this funny sweet charismatic guy that felt so much love for Georgina now in the arms of another woman. I'm just wondering how this is all going to work out. I'm mad at him for going to the arms of Maddie and even though she is such a sweet girl and I want her to be happy I really just feel like so but has been the story of Georgina and Seth and their forbidden love and their undeniable chemistry. Towards the last half of the book things really start to come to a head and fore shadow some of the things that are coming. Seth has the existential crisis about the ending for his characters in his long-running series that is what brought him and Georgina together in the first place. He says that his muse is left him and he can't figure out how he wants to end things for them. as all this is going on he's wedding planning with Maddie and feeling the guilt over what happened with Georgina but there still the tension and chemistry between him and Georgie. So he is just wanting to figure out the root of that and if anything's possible with him and Georgina. we don't have his point of view so just guessing a little bit. Of course I ended up finding out what is going on with visions that Georgina sees almost like a siren and calling her to something happy and bright and usually attacking her when she is in a more depressed mood. As her friends including Eric and Roman in his own way are trying to figure out how to rescue Georgina from what's going on with her visions it is neat to see them all band together and strive for an answer for her. She is usually the one that is so adamant about finding answers and not giving up. She would bring her friends along with her as back up if someone else has problem even if they wouldn't get unsolved without her urging. and now they're trying to help her. The dreams continue to be a big part of the plot line and Georgina realizes something that I've noticed too. that trouble seems to be drawn to her and that she ends up being in the same kind of situations over and over and then she will seek help and then finally get to the bottom of things. but that it just seems like such a pattern and the cycle that she is on. Also liked the situation with godiva in this one showing that some parts of what she was shown to have the possibility to come true and that's it she might be on that path. The ending definitely made me have more questions but it also started to show me how some of the things might unravel and having certain plot lines either be tied up or showing the possibilities of what might happen. Its kind of wild how close to the ending of full series we are and it's been a wild ride and I can't wait for an extra moment to go ahead and read more.Bottom Line: Perfect storm leading up to the finale of this series that I've enjoyed immensely.

Darker than previous books, Georgina is sucked into her worst nightmares. Her friends try to find her, some surprise her with their feelings, but she has disappeared. This is pure torture for her and those who care for her. She has dreadful event after dreadful event threatening to break her.Roman, Seth, Maggie, Jerome, Carter, Erik, Cody, Peter and Hugh the ole gang is still their with some new characters thrown into the mix, nasty ones. There was not enough Carter for me, I like him. Perhaps the next book. This one ending with us semi-hanging on a cliff...What will happen ??? So the series continues, YES !
