    Menger Hotel

The Menger Hotel is the oldest continuously open and operating hotel west of the Mississippi River. Built in San Antonio, Texas by William Menger in 1858 it quickly became one of the most popular hotels in the area. Throughout the years it's been host too many famous guests such as Robert E. Lee, Babe Ruth, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Oscar Wilde, and even Theodore Roosevelt. Roosevelt actually used the hotel bar to recruit the Rough Riders for the Spanish-American War.

With over 150 years of history its little wonder that the hotel is said be one most haunted hotels in all of Texas, if not all of America. One of the most famous ghosts that is said to still walk the hall is that of Richard King, the founder and proprietor of King Ranch. He loved the hotel so much that he had his own suite there. A suite that he eventually died in. To this day guests who've staid there often claim to wake up to see Richard King peering down at them.

Another ghost that is said to still walk the halls and make herself known is Sallie White. Unlike Richard King, Sallie White was never a guest of the hotel, but one of the staff. She was a chambermaid there before she was killed by her husband in 1878. It's said that guests at the Menger often see her roaming the halls and suites still trying to do her
