About this ebook

Have you ever been excited about something, only to have it all fall apart? Do you wish you could go back in time to avoid misery?

Steve Fellers understands. When he set off on a long bus ride to go pick up a gift car in another state, what was supposed to be a blessing turned into exhausting delays, crimes, sirens, and accidents. While others might have given up, Steve discovered at the end of it all that blessings can be found even in the midst of pain and sacrifice.

In this modern-day memoir, discover how several grim mishaps culminated in a glorious mission.

About the Author

Jena Fellers walks by faith, not by sight—both physically and spiritually. After losing her vision due to retinitis pigmentosa, she married Steve Fellers. They have three children and four grandchildren. In Baxter Springs, Kansas, Steve and Jena have pastored Trinity Worship Center since 1998. In 2009, they co–founded Word in Action Ministries, a program that rebuilds lives through feeding and other services. As an author, inspirational speaker, and co–pastor, Jena loves to share personal stories, especially about the miraculous ways she has witnessed God working in her life. Her passion is to educate and encourage others to follow Christ a little closer. Jena blogs and regularly writes for numerous publications.

    From Mishaps to Mission - Jena Fellers

    Dedication

    I'd like to dedicate this book to my wonderful husband and knight in shining armor, Steve Fellers. Without him, there wouldn't be a story, and without his finding me special software to write with, there would be no author.

    —Jena Steve’s Beautiful Bride Fellers

    An Unexpected Blessing

    Steve stood preaching a sermon at his church. He did what he often did: He integrated a personal story. It was usually about himself, but sometimes it was about him and his wife, Jena.

    This particular story had happened only a few weeks earlier, but each time he told it to friends over the phone or in person, the reaction was the same. They laughed, cried, and sat on the edge of their seats. Sometimes they even held their breath in anticipation. This day was no different.

    When he reached the part about why he needed to ride a bus, chuckles, giggles, and full–blown laughter erupted. That’s because Steve said, I thought I’d drive the new car and Jena would drive our pickup home.

    All the members in the congregation knew that his wife, Jena, was totally blind. They were used to following both Steve and Jena’s example of teasing about her lack of sight. Over time, they had learned this was done to make people more comfortable, for Jena didn’t view blindness much differently than a diabetic viewed diabetes.

    This is the story Pastor Steve shared about his real–life adventure and what insight he gained from it.

    * * * * *

    Steve and Jena were resting side by side on the bed. Steve’s eyes were locked on his phone, which displayed a bus schedule.

    Riding a bus really does make the most sense, he said.

    Jena agreed hesitantly as tears gathered in her eyes. Her hand covered his. She croaked, If I weren’t blind, we wouldn’t be in this predicament. Swallowing hard, she added, I’d be able to drive, instead of you taking me home, riding a bus all night when you’re already exhausted, then having to turn right around and drive home again. It’s a long trip.
