A serial killer is a person who has killed more than three people within several months or even some years, with a break between murders. The cause is usually psychological (often sexual) satisfaction, though thrill, anger, attention seeking, and money may also be a motive.
The FBI reports that more than 70% of serial killers experienced problems related to drug, substance or other addiction. While only a few serial killers were addicted to alcohol or drugs, many discovered them in their youth.
A lot of serial killers met with sexually stressful episodes in their childhood.
The most fruitful serial killer Dr. Harold Shipman from 1946 to 2004 is attributed to over 250 murders. He was a doctor from Great Britain. The oldest murdered patient was a 93-year-old woman, and the youngest was a 41-year-old man. He committed suicide by hanging himself in his cell in 2004, one day before his 58th birthday.
The megahit movie Se7en is a creepy thriller about a serial murderer who contrives to kill his victims following the seven mortal sins: envy, anger, pride, sloth, gluttony, greed, and lust. The silence of the Lambs is another Oscar-winning thriller about a serial killer.
Dr. H.H. Holmes is the first serial killer in America. In the late 1890s, he admitted 27 murders. He declared that he could not help the fact that he was born with the devil in him.
