- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Fantastic story! The audiobook of this title is also a great listen.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5It’s a cute little tale with plenty of talking animals. Primrose is super polite all the time, which made her character feel a little odd to me. On the other hand, Primrose sets a good example for any kids reading the story as to how to behave around talking animals.I like that the tale is a quest within a quest. Primrose wants to cure her father’s illness so she sets out to find a magical plant that may do the trick. But along the way, she learns of the evil Queen Evelyn and with her new animal friends, she must defeat this queen. Magic and adventure and perfect grammar permeate this story. The end gives Primrose everything she set out to gain and then more. For me, this is where things fell apart a little. The memories of those that Primrose loves are altered to make room for this new magical reality. Primrose is also sworn to the highest secrecy concerning the talking animals, swearing to keep the secret even from her parents.SPOILER WARNINGSo now Primrose has a resurrected mom (who had died years ago) and a healthy dad. Both her parents and all those that know her parents have had their memories altered, removing any hint of Primrose’s mom’s death.END SPOILERThe rewards were piled on to high to keep the story going for me. Plus, altering memories can be a bad thing in and of itself. All told, it was mostly a fun, light-hearted adventure. And who doesn’t love talking animals? 4/5 stars. The Narration: Laura Welsh did a great job with this book’s narration. I love all her voices for the talking animals. She also has the perfect 12-year-old girl’s voice for Primrose. All character voices were distinct. The pacing was perfect. There were no tech issues with the recording. 5/5 stars.I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by Vinay Shankar. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.
