    SUMMARY

    FORWARD

Most Americans live from paycheck to paycheck and are in debt, with many dying in debt. We have been told since birth that borrowing money is normal, that it’s OK and it’s a necessary evil. Saving and paying cash just delays what we want now. Americans are more than 19 trillion dollars in debt. Wrap your head around that, 19 trillion. Imagine what we could do if we had that 19 trillion in our bank accounts, paying cash for everything.

Who are you trying to impress? Keeping up with your neighbors, family, friends or coworkers means you are only keeping up with their debt. Trust me, they’re not happy either. They, like you, probably live from paycheck to paycheck just to pay for the items they purchased, just one paycheck away from financial ruin. Most of these items are items they wanted not items they needed, if you are trying to keep up with your parents, they have worked their whole lives for what they have, decades and decades and you want to match them 2 years out of the house? Really?

Humans have a need to want to fit in, and as consumers, we have an appetite bigger than a starving tyrannosaurs rex. If you don’t believe this go to the next black Friday sale where the police have to stand by so people don’t kill each other over stuff. Your neighbors pull in with a new car, got to have that, new iPhone comes out, got to have that, but you really don’t. Everything we see and hear is pushing us to consume. You cannot turn the TV on, open a paper, magazine, mailbox, drive your car or even shop and not see ads, billboards, commercials or the person at the register asking if we would like to save 20% today if we get their credit card. Pushing us to spend our money everywhere, food, cars, clothes, tech, even prescription drugs with all those awesome side effects. Everyone wants the money we worked so hard for, and we seem eager to just hand it over.

The winners in this financial dance are the banks, local, state and federal governments. They win by fees, interest, and taxes, hundreds of millions each
