I have lived in Asia since I came to work in Nepal in July 1977. I worked 2.5 years there, then took a 3 month trip in Asia. After a short return time to the US, I came back to Asia and visited Hong Kong, Malaysia and Thailand and got work in Thailand as a teacher. I have lived in Thailand since then, and married a Thai national and have two houses in Thailand. I collect coins, banknotes and stamps, as well as antiques. I speak 6 languages and read the numeral scripts of 12 altogether. My coin and banknote hobby causes me too learn these so I can read the notes without other's help. I study culture and enjoy reading about things I find that are interesting, like opium weights from Burma and Burmese lacquer ware. I am now studying Burmese so I can communicate more with the dealers I meet, who also speak Hindi. I enjoy sharing my things - collections of all kinds - on ebay ( trader55553), and ( Delcampe - asiantreasures ) as I meet so many people like myself and learn new things. I feel collectors of distinction will get things I had to work hard for. However, the real fun was the going out and finding all the things in every place I have gone, making memories I will always treasure. The treasures I keep remind me of those times.

To Learn or Not To Learn - David Alan Harwood
Preface
You do not need to have a high level of education in order to use this book. As a matter of fact, it may be an advantage not to have a high degree of education. Some people tend to judge simple things as not worth their time or energy and they feel that simple things do not work in a complex society like the world has now. However, sometimes, simple solutions are better than the most advanced ones.
This book is a simple solution for anyone to use in order to learn a new language. It is a method I came up with all by myself, trying to save work, time and money to learn a new language. It worked for me and can work for you. All you have to do is put your mind to it.
I am NOT a linguist that was trained by a top-rated college. I do not have a degree in languages. I am only a person who wanted to survive in a country where many languages were used and had to devise a way to learn their ways of talking or fail in my work. I do not fail in my job. So I came up with this method and now am letting the world know that anyone can do it, too. All of you can do it; just decide to do it and then do it. It is that easy.

This book has no index because it does not need an index. The book is short and to the point and will be started by me, but finished by you. Mark your own pages.
Have you ever experienced the following?
Been at an airport at a foreign airport or airline, need to talk to a person at the desk and could not talk to that person?
Done overseas work for a short time and want to get something simple done but can’t say that?
Tried to buy or get something and need help from a person not in your culture?
Found out too late what you thought was true was not even close to true and suffered because of it?
Stayed in a place you liked a lot but could not communicate with anyone much and felt you were missing something?
All these previous scenarios are not limited to only kids, college students, or adults. These are not situations only business people find now and then. These happen to all of us all over the world.
We live in a global world now. Your one language is not enough. You need more than one tongue to get around in life if you are on the move for your business as so many people are these days.

Unreal excuses and reasons people say not to learn
But I am overbusy with my studies. – Yes, students have busy schedules. They have to go to classes, do homework and use the PC to do some research. Still you have time for a cup of coffee or tea each day, sit on the
