About this ebook
A dragon meets spontaneous human combustion...
Adara Brenton thinks she's an average girl: single and dreaming of romance. Also? In need of a job. As it turns out, horking up fireballs at work is the fast track to unemployment.
Yes. Fireballs.
See, in her family, spontaneous human combustion is genetic...like red hair, only, you know, fatal, and now it's her turn to burn.
Endre Felman has lived deep inside a mountain for centuries, adding to his hoard and looking for his mate. Meeting Adara before she goes up in smoke gives him hope, but convincing her dragons are real, that he's the dragon of her heart, and keeping her alive through what's to come proves to be more difficult than he ever imagined.
In the end, they may both burn to ash because no dragon lives forever without love.
~*~ EXCERPT~*~
He leaned close, his mouth by my ear, his breath tickling my neck. "When we're done with the next kiss, you won't even remember your name."
I moved back and arched an eyebrow. "Oh really?"
"It only gets hotter from here."
I swallowed.
"And the kiss after that, you'll be begging me, Adara."
"For what?" I whispered the question.
"For what only I can give you." Endre came close again, and I tried to back away, but found the cave at my back. He crowded me, forcing me into the jagged rock wall. "After this, I don't think we'll be able to stop at just kissing, do you?"
"We can't just fall into bed together. That's crazy."
"No. Not crazy. It's the magic of fate and fire. I'll play by your rules for now, but keeping me at a distance doesn't change anything. I'm yours and you're mine. Our flames will rise as one someday."

Author's Note
Dear Reader: I've been working on a love story with spontaneous human combustion and dragons for a while now. As far as I'm aware, this is a fairly unique angle for a paranormal romance and I hope you enjoy it.
Also, I spent a lot of time finding the perfect names for my characters and wanted to share them here since they turned out so well (I think!). For those of you who love this kind of behind-the-scenes information, you'll note how well the names fit the story. Names don't line up this nicely that often, so this is like a lottery win for an author.
Endre (one who rides alone) Felman (one who lives in the mountains).
Adara (noble fire) Brenton (related to Old English for 'flame').
Sigurd (guiding the victory) Halstein (defender of the rock)
Dragon Burning Bright has been a labor of love. More sane romance authors would have run screaming from Spontaneous Human Combustion: The Love Story.
No one ever said I was sane. ;)
I hope you're glad I'm nuts by the time you read 'The End.'
XOXO

For the love of fangs and fur...forever.
Chapter One
Adara
The man driving me home was becoming a problem.
It wasn't my thing to get into cars with men I barely knew, or date them to begin with, but any port in a thunder snow storm and all that. Our date had gone badly, by any objective standard.
Of course it sucked sour donkey balls. This was me we're talking about: The unemployed chick who'd set her boss' toupee on fire (by accident, but still not compatible with having a job), and whose car had just been totaled. The chick who was charging everything on her credit card because her bank account had fifty cents in it. Why would a dating app called Swipe be the answer to any of my problems?
I'd hoped for at least a free meal. I wasn't ugly. I was good with people. I needed a pick-me-up after the month from hell. So why couldn't I Swipe a prince charming? It worked for other people.
Do you know what I got for all my swiping? A dim bulb named Todd.
He was marginally employed, living with his sister who wanted to kick him out, and he had the allure of stale food. The most he had going for him was the great, but unrealistic picture in his online dating profile.
By his standards, however, I was in his car and my knee was fair game. He kept pawing at me, and I kept removing his hand, tossing it in the direction of the steering wheel. He was like a boomerang though. He always came back.
Why didn't that ever happen with a guy I was into? It was never the hot, rich man of my dreams feeling me up. Only the losers. I should have known better than to expect a win tonight. My life didn't do winning. At least, not lately.
Careful. The roads are icy.
I shoved his hand back at him yet again and tried to yank my skirt down over my knees. Todd's stupid profile picture had made me dress up. I'd been aiming for a dream and reality had decided to smack me down. Hard.
Outside, the weather threw around some lightning and rumbled with thunder. The world went white with rapid fire snow. They'd predicted this storm for tomorrow, but it had come a day early.
My life was made of awesome.
Ah, don't worry. I got this.
Todd's hand came back, a clamp lined with Velcro.
I squirmed up against the car door. If I hadn't toasted my Jeep like a marshmallow, none of this would be happening. I should have stayed at the restaurant until the various car services were running again.
There'd been no snow when our date started. Todd had also seemed cool at first. And then the heavens had spewed like the clouds had soaked up too much booze and bad judgment instead of water. That was when Todd told me about his life, unmasking his true self.
By the time I slammed back my dinner at the speed of 'get me the hell out of here' and made my excuses, the world had turned into a snow globe from hell, dark and full of far too many things I wanted to avoid.
Now here I was, living the dream. Or Todd's dream anyway. He was overjoyed at the idea of taking me home. He seemed to think it meant more than it did.
Just turn right up here.
I pointed ahead of us, to where a pin prick of traffic light beamed through the snow. There was an apartment building there with a cushy lobby. I didn't live there, but I could wait out the storm.
Todd didn't need to know where I really lived. I had a feeling that wouldn't be a good idea. Also, he might ask questions about the lack of snow and the plethora of black scorch marks.
Everyone else had three feet of snow from the last weather wallop.
I had brimstone.
I didn't want to talk about it. Not with him. Not with my landlord. Not with myself.
I'd already caught some side eye from people in the neighborhood. Had any of them seen anything? Did they wonder if they were seeing things? Or was it just me who couldn't believe it?
Todd's hand wandered up my thigh. A tight smile screwed into my lips, and I captured his hand in mine. What a night to wear a mini skirt and sexy thigh high boots. I'd really been sucked in by Todd's online shtick. He'd avoided the tells that slipped up most jerks. There'd even been a picture with a puppy...that I now knew wasn't his.
I wouldn't trust a dating profile puppy ever again.
The driveway, right there.
I used his hand to point and then pushed him away. Thanks for a lovely dinner.
Thanks for covering the bill. I can't believe I forgot my wallet. I owe you a dinner.
I crossed my arms so I wouldn't punch myself in the face. Yup. I'd paid for dinner. Just the final kick in the teeth my overused credit card needed. Damn it. Note to self: Next time, don't order dinner until you verify the guy has a wallet on him. Oh, and a job.
He made the turn into the apartment complex and winked at me, not even watching the road. I'll take you someplace nice.
Uh-huh. Yeah. Okay.
My profile would go dark five seconds after
