    In these days of reflection and concerns regarding the future of Europe, I have found in my virtual library the original version of a short essay that was hosted by the Italian magazine Rivista di Studi Politici (Journal of Political Studies) in 1995.[1]

    Today I propose its full text, in the same journal that published it over twenty years ago. I think it can offer some ideas of interpretation, not entirely useless, of the historical, political and economical moment that the European citizens are going through.

    Hints of forward thinking, first of all. Not so much mine, but of some leading figures of European history mentioned in the essay, Aldo Moro in the first place. It was 1977 when he wrote: It is right to note that the obstacle, which bars our way, comes from Great Britain, which has long been the most half-hearted, the most problematic, the most uncertain on any European entity development. On last 23 June, the majority of British citizens chose Brexit, namely to leave the European Union. It was meant to be. Moro and a few other enlightened statesmen, of noble and far-sighted thought, had understood the extent of the British obstacle. At least now the situation is clear, unambiguous and offers us the opportunity to start again more vigorously, from different bases.

    Hints of geo-politics and geo-economics, too. For restarting purposes, Europe needs a stronger identity, more innovative ideas, more distinguished talents and a lot of courage. The
