    Monty, a resident of the Applewood retirement home near the Canadian border, spends his days bird-watching and fleecing the others at poker. When a long-time resident passes away and her room – the only one with a view of lake Takadashee – becomes available, everyone wants to be the new occupant. Monty plots to ensure the odds are stacked in his favor. But in a place where everyone is running out of time, he’s not the only one refusing to go quietly.

    The Draw is a dark and funny short story about death, witchcraft, and black ducks.

    Aksel Studsgarth is a Danish writer. Originally trained as a designer in London, he has worked for many years in the animation and movie industry. Along the way, he has enjoyed the highs and lows of co-founding a successful visual effects studio: from drinking champagne on a yacht in Cannes to unblocking a factory toilet with a shoebox lid. He is the author of a series of short stories that take you into the dark, the peculiar, and the supernatural. He lives with his family north of Copenhagen and when he is not writing he makes a point of avoiding leeks and fennel but loves travelling with his camera and notebook, and pretty much anything involving a mountain- or road bike.
