About this ebook
Subsequently the inhabitants were under constant harassment from young men on pushbikes sporting pristine white shirts and large black Bibles determined to alleviate their suffering – it didn’t help, them or the residents.
The front yard of the house looked like a train wreck with uncut lawn and dilapidated vehicles. The backyard was worse with a plethora of unfinished projects everywhere, more cars in various states of repair, numerous motorcycles, a speedboat and a small beer garden with a mountain of beer bottles signalling its presence.
Life was good then.

The author wishes to remain anonymous. Once you read the first book you’ll understand. That’s why he has assumed the pseudonym of Archie McFee. Several lawyers agree. These stories are taken from the life and times of the author, and some of his silly associates, whilst growing up in a beautiful, but relatively small city in New Zealand. However, Archie now lives in a bigger city, and is now old! He’s not particularly happy about being old and, try as he may, he can’t seem to stop the dreadful aging process. He’s growing less hair in some places and more hair out of others; not nice. He’s finally agreed to share some anecdotes from his interesting past that you, hopefully, may find entertaining. These anecdotes have been altered in some way to protect those involved and dissuade any potential police prosecution or civil law case.

OUR HOUSE
Bogan Place was a unique address. We reluctantly moved there from a small country town when I was a skinny nine-year-old. Dad loved the quiet, small country living, and the close-knit community, particularly after the war. I think he got used to the communal life during those hard, arduous war years. Dad always reckoned the country folk were kind, friendly, talkative, caring people.
Mum didn’t!
Mum missed the city life, wanted an electric fridge, and a stove that didn’t use wood. It’s nearly the 60’s,
Mum would grumble. Besides, there were more work opportunities for Dad in the big smoke, Mum contended. Dad wasn’t convinced but eventually relented. Subsequently, we moved into the bright lights of Christchurch in December 1959 where we took up residence in our new rented house, provided to the low-income masses by a sympathetic New Zealand socialist Government.
It was a small, timber-framed house with a grey tiled roof, in a less blessed or socially challenged, neighbourhood, as they say these days. It had three small bedrooms, a lounge-eating area and a tiny kitchen, one single toilet and a separate bathroom with a bath, no shower. The great thing about being the recipient of this semi-permanent rental arrangement was that you could do pretty well whatever you wanted with the property without fear of reprisal or removal. The first of many improvements Dad made was to install a shower.
Mum was excited.
So with all the Kiwi ingenuity he could muster, and his old wooden toolbox, Dad set about planning his first official improvement to modernise our home, and place it a
