Chapter 1

That looks perfect Katharine. Oh, I'm so sorry to see you go. Your shoes are going to be very hard to fill, indeed.

Robert, the head chef of the Swirl Resort, gave his second chef a hug and a kiss on the forehead. The girl was truly gifted. She was young but Robert knew that within a few years she would be an even better chef than he was, and that was saying something if he didn't mind tooting his own horn. And Robert often tooted his own horn, but it was always more fun when someone else did it...

He smiled to himself at his raunchy humor. Katharine was the type of person who would have laughed hysterically at something so cheesy. She was a lot of fun and a great friend. Robert was truly going to miss her, but the young woman was moving on to other things. She'd recently been offered her own restaurant in Athens, Greece by a regular client of The Swirl Resort. She'd be the head honcho and she'd be making even more money than she was here, but Robert knew that even raising her salary would not be enough to keep her, and he wouldn't want to. The girl wanted to run her own ship and gain the experience of being at the helm for once. It had nothing to do with money. Robert knew the feeling all too well.

Thanks, Katharine replied. You are too kind. I'm going to miss you, too.

The two culinary titans hugged more tightly for a moment and then Katharine began getting the food ready to be taken to the dining room.

Robert watched the young chef coming into her own right before his very eyes with a mix of pride and nostalgic loss.

Robert? Your last interview of the day is here, Michelle, one of the hostess's said popping her head around the door.

Ok, send her to my office, Robert replied.

He was glad to get this one over with. The past week had been nothing but interviews on top of interviews. He'd met with twenty-seven people. Most of them were great chefs with tremendous resumes, but he was looking for someone with that extra factor that you could not put your finger on. There were good chefs and then there were great chefs. For someone to be his second in command at the famous Swirl Resort, they had to be outstanding. They had to be great. He would accept nothing less, but if he didn't meet the right candidate soon he was afraid that he'd have to do just that.

Robert sat down in his office and poured himself a bourbon. The drink felt good going down. His stress levels lately had been at an all-time high.

Michelle arrived at his door a moment later with a young, beautiful, black woman in her early twenties. She was medium height with a curvy build and a smile that made the heart flutter. Robert was instantly impressed. When you got right down to it The Swirl Resort was about sexy, and that even included the chefs.
