- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5In my opinion, I think “Stingrays” is a great book, especially for children who are just beginning to read. The book is a brief, overall description about stingrays. It touches on where stingrays live, what they eat, their different sizes, and their physical characteristics. One of the things I liked best about this book was the descriptive language. The language is simple enough for young readers to understand, but it is still descriptive. For example, when the author talks about the way stingrays swim, she uses simple language that paints a clear picture. “Some kinds of stingrays swim near the top of the ocean. They glide smoothly through the water.” The facts presented in this book are accurate and interesting. The book talks about the gills of a stingray, how its mouth is on the bottom, and its barbed poisonous tail. Those are some of the facts that make the stingray interesting and unique. The illustrations in the book are actual pictures of stingrays. They are beautiful and clear pictures, which grab the reader’s attention. Stingrays are my favorite marine animals. I remember reading a lot of books about stingrays as a child. My favorite books were always the ones that had actual pictures in them, not just drawings. The big idea is to give readers information about stingrays.
