Ketogenic Cancer Approach - Brock Landers
Conclusion
Introduction
Iwould like to take this opportunity to thank you for purchasing this book, " Ketogenics for Cancer: The Ketogenic Therapeutic Nutritional Supplement Guide. "
What comes to your mind when you hear the word cancer? Is it the fear of being diagnosed? Or is it the fear of knowing your loved ones have been diagnosed? For the majority of people, the word cancer is associated with a range of different emotions it invokes, such as:
Grief
Shock
Depression
Bravery
Intense Pain
Exhilaration
The reason cancer develops and the reason for it to respond to specific treatments is still a mystery in most cases. Almost 13 million Americans are said to have cancer and more than a million are diagnosed every year approximately. Though the medical field and the pharmaceutical industry has shown tremendous improvement in finding a suitable cure for many deadly diseases, cancer is still a big challenge. The adverse side-effects caused by conventional cancer treatments are forcing many people and medical experts to look for alternative holistic and dietary approaches.
Though there is evidence to support the benefits of the Ketogenic diet therapy, there is very little guidance for people who wish to adopt this low-carb high-fat diet as a metabolic therapy for cancer. Preliminary research of Keto diet on cancer subjects has shown to:
Stop the progression of cancer
Inhibit metastatic growth
Kill cancerous cells
However, most researches done to date have mainly been performed on animal patients. Human trials on colorectal and brain cancer have recently started.
Your body cells burn glucose for energy, but the healthy ones can burn alternatives (such as fat instead of glucose). However, this is not the case with cancerous cells. They can only use sugar (glucose) as their energy source. The other energy source the tumor cells use is the glutamate. Most cancers, such as colorectal and brain cancers, appear to be likely responsive only to glucose. There are various other cancer types that vary with this approach.
Dementia cases are often associated with high plasma glucose levels in the brain cells. The Keto diet has been successfully used to control epilepsy in children. KetoCal is a product that was developed a few years ago for such cases. This product has high fat, slightly low protein, and very low carbs. The research confirmed that healthy brain cells readily adapt to Ketosis while abnormal cells (which might become cancerous in future) don’t.
The fundamental theory of the Ketogenic diet is that cancer cells can survive only when they ferment. For them to get into fermentation mode, they need glucose. Unlike healthy normal cells, cancerous cells cannot switch to burning the stored (or dietary fats) when there is insufficient availability of glucose. Theory – No glucose, no cancer, as the cancerous cells become weak and die.
In this book, you will learn about the Ketogenic diet and its possible role in treating cancer. The chapters in this book will help you to understand more about cancer, the science behind it, and the effect the Ketogenic diet can have on it.
I hope this book serves as an informative and interesting read to you!
Happy Reading!
Chapter One: Cancer and How it Works
Cancer diagnosis can be shattering and the reason for this fear is completely reasonable. Cancer is still one of the deadliest diseases in this world. It is, in fact, the second leading cause of death in the United States. It is believed to claim more than half a million lives a year. However, there is some good news here – most forms of cancer can be prevented and a good number of them
