About this ebook

Many would argue that marriage begins long before you stand on the altar, but legally, that's the first time your union is recognised. And no fewer words bind a pair of people together like the following words, for better or worse, through sickness and health, till death do us part. But what happens when they're put to the test? But is that what really determines the strength of a marriage or is there a bond that needs to be shared between two parties, maybe even more in order for there to be an understanding of what true love is.

    Wedding Vows - Londa Cele

Part 1: For Better or Worse

The sound of hot oil filled the stove. I hardly cooked, so it meant that Noxolo was at it. And the only time she bothered with the kitchen was either to keep up appearances or to vent. In my humble opinion, she was a better cook when she was angry compared to any other time she attended to the stove. She was no Vusi, but she could hold her own. I walked into the kitchen, passing a giant mirror on my way there and surprise myself with how I looked. Stripped pyjama bottoms that were as old as I was, a vest that needed a good wash, crusts still in my eyes despite washing my face and that morning smell. Too preoccupied with myself, I forgot to pay attention to what was happening in my house. Noxolo wasn’t alone as a small voice answered her questions.

Shit, it was my weekend with Zinzi. Was it here already, I meant she? I thought I still had 7 days to plan for her stay. With everything that had been going on, I’d totally forgot to be a father my daughter. What was even more surprising than my stupidity was the fact that for the longest time I can’t remember Noxolo and Zinzi getting along. Which spoke volumes considering who Zinzi’s mother was and her relationship with my wife.

Morning I groaned, giving my ex a look of confusion as she paraded in my house as though there was nothing wrong.

    Daddy,

Hello pumpkin, I said embracing the innocent hug coming my way. I raised my eyebrows at Noxolo, and she pointed Zinzi’s back with a spatula. This is an amazing surprise.

I know right, mom said I’d be bothering you, but I told her it’s nonsense. Daddy always wants me around.

I smiled at her. You know me too well, I said, kissing her on the forehead. What’s for breakfast? I asked, trying to keep things casual and as normal as possible. After all, this was all new to me.

    Bacon Zinzi shouted.

Ah, you’re favourite, I see. Did you thank mommy number 2?

    Yes, I did,

Ah ah, Noxolo said, slapping my hand away as I reached for the plate closest to me. This is yours, she said, handing me a plate.

We ate as a family, which was great although the cracks
