The Small Book of Short Scripts for Social Change
()
About this ebook
Writer Elemenopie Marie invites you to "get the attention of the apathetic masses in 15 minutes or less!" A veteran of 'No Shame Theatre' in Cedar Falls, Iowa, Elemenopie has the art of the short script down to a science - these scripts are specifically written as options for theatre and film students, as well as independent artists, to express their revelations about how unfair Western Civilization is to a wide array of people from various walks of life: the elderly, sex workers, and the working poor, to name a few. We get a glimpse of everything from tone policing to colonization from the point of view of a person socialized as a white woman in the American Midwest.
This text is not meant to be performed solely on stage as if the book itself were the basis for a play festival, it's more of a 'take what works and leave what doesn't' approach. It's the author's hope you find a piece which resonates with you and your company of thespians!!
Now go open some minds!
Elemenopie Marie
Theatre Veteran/ Graduate, Comedian, and Entrepreneurial Writer/ Filmmaker, L.C. (pronounced 'Elsie') Kent (former pen name Elemenopie Marie) has a great interest in Social Awareness, Civil Rights, Justice, World History, and the Psychological Arts, which she expresses in this blog and on her YouTube Channel. The (general) purpose of L.C.'s writings and video content is to inspire thought and action towards the common good and general welfare of all human beings, especially those who are particularly vulnerable for a myriad of reasons.Role Model Elizabeth Cochran, aka Nelly Bly (after the infamous song) was willing to put herself in mortal danger in order to help victims of institutions and business practices without destroying the system as a whole - she didn't want to destroy the world, she just wanted to make it better. She wanted freedom and equality for all people from all walks of life, regardless of the circumstances into which they were born. She wanted it so much, she endured general mockery, sexism, literal torture, and dismissal of her specific tribulations as colloquial click-bait. Nevertheless, mental health and prison facilities are now expected to treat the inmates like people instead of vile creatures, OSHA exists, and so do Unions, to protect the health and safety of factory workers. Life today in America is much better, thanks to whistleblowers like Nelly Bly."If it is to be in my Cosmic Duties, I wish to resume the burden of Light Bearing started by Nelly and pass it on to the next generation, when the time is right." -- L.C. Kent

Eternal Gratitude goes out to the University of Northern Iowa, the Cedar Falls Chapter of No Shame Theatre and the Waterloo Community Playhouse for allowing me to hone my craft, my friends and family for supporting my work as a filmmaker and believing in my path as an unconventional thespian (which seems to be the rule, rather than the exception, for artists), and all people whose experiences of injustice serves as the motivation for this publication.
Dedication
To the next generation: May you not have to experience these atrocities outside of a performed drama.
