About this ebook

Sorceress, Princess of Colchis, Securer of the Golden Fleece.

Her very name is a byword for infamy.

Legend has it that she murdered her own children for revenge.

But love in Ancient Greece was often a dangerous game; and legends are not always what they seem.

Medea, devoted wife of Jason, was also a loving mother, a loyal friend of Herakles and a brave adventurer with the Argonauts.

A woman both betrayer and betrayed, the real story of Medea is strange, sensual and heroic.

Medea - first in the Delphic Women trilogy - followed by Cassandra and Electra

Kerry Greenwood

Kerry Greenwood was born in the Melbourne suburb of Footscray and after wandering far and wide, she returned to live there. She has degrees in English and Law from Melbourne University and was admitted to the legal profession on the 1st April 1982, a day which she finds both soothing and significant. Kerry has written three series, a number of plays, including The Troubadours with Stephen D’Arcy, is an award-winning children’s writer and has edited and contributed to several anthologies. The Phryne Fisher series (pronounced Fry-knee, to rhyme with briny) began in 1989 with Cocaine Blues which was a great success. Kerry has written twenty books in this series with no sign yet of Miss Fisher hanging up her pearl-handled pistol. Kerry says that as long as people want to read them, she can keep writing them. In 2003 Kerry won the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Australian Association.

Retelling of the Medea/Jason myth from the viewpoints of Medea and Nauplios, a fisherman's son, an Argonaut and her faithful friend through the years. Medea, Princess of Colchis, priestess of the goddess Hekate, and sorceress/healer helps Jason steal the Golden Fleece and the bones of Phryxos, who had ridden and flown on the golden ram. As the author tells the story, Medea, when Jason wished to cast her aside for a younger woman, flees with Nauplios to Corinth, where the Corinthians stone Medea's innocent children to death because of the Corinthians' anger at her murders. I was glad the contemptible Jason was punished as he deserved to be. I liked the changes the author wrought in the story, except so much occultism and graphic descriptions left me uncomfortable. I liked hearing Medea's side of the story. Our sympathies lie with her. And Nauplios kept us informed of the quest, also his lifelong love.
