About this ebook
The poet isn't always aware. The poet isn't always righteous. The poet isn't always impeccable. The poet isn't always truthful. The poet isn't always giving. One thing the poet is though is human. The poet will make mistakes. The poet will miss the mark. The poet will cry. The poet will yell. The poet will resent. The poet will adore. One thing the poet always does is this... craft.

The Poet Will Lie - Khali Raymond
Pentameters of Hell
we living in bereft times, it’s the KKK era all over again
except for the KKK, it’s cops and feds
Bloods and Crips against the innocent
this was the supremacist’s dream
for black people to turn against each other
all they had to do was put us in the ghetto
compile us into deteriorating housing projects
pollute our water, taint our food
cut funding for the schools
give us teachers who are only there to collect a check
not teaching us anything, yet they blame us for terrible grades and test scores
this state been failing us
i’m spitting pentameters of hell, the American Dream?
that’s a cute way to spell oppression, bullshit, and nightmares
it all sounded great on paper
i don’t gotta tell you the rest, those immigrants were lied to after they left Ellis Island
leaving diaspora only to come to another one
America is only great for discrimination
ask the old white bitch in Walmart who hates Mexicans
because they taking jobs y’all too privileged to keep
you resign and collect pension six months later
that’s why you have people like me
who speak out and help their people
however, every time a black man does that
you criminalize
