About this ebook

Kevin Kernan looks at Bernie Williams' upbringing in Puerto Rico, and how the New York Yankees' star is able to appreciate all of the good things that have happened in his life because of baseball. Perhaps the most impressive aspect of Williams' career up to now is that he has been able to maintain a low-key approach to baseball and life. Kernan shows how important that has been for him in the pressure-cooker atmosphere of New York City.

This walk in center field was different than all others Bernie Williams had taken in his life.

His New York Yankees had just completed a four-game sweep of the San Diego Padres to capture the Yankees’ 24th World Series championship. At the age of 30, Bernie was on top of the baseball world. He was batting fourth and playing center field for the team with the best record in major league history. The Yankees had won an incredible 125 games in 1998 and lost only 50. Opposing managers referred to him as the heart and soul of the team, the best all-round player on the team with the best record of all time.
