Out of their bodies, it had to be, seemingly in answer to my question, tentacles appeared. Their color was somewhere between orange and flesh. Suckers formed on one side. I should have been afraid but for some reason, I wasn't.

And then they were on me, attaching themselves to me, gently lifting me into the air.

More tentacles came from them both and as they twisted me, this way and that, they stripped me of my clothes. I gasped with each reveal, barely noticing Nick on his knees, his head hung low. Is he ashamed? I wondered.

No, he is only a man, said Lizzie. Did she actually say it or is it in my head? I wondered. Can she read my thoughts???!!!

Both, replied Portia. We both can. And soon, you will, too.

I didn't understand any of it but I also felt like I understood everything, more and more. Once again, I was struck by the knowledge that I should be afraid – terrified, even – but I was calm. Except for the overwhelming desire I felt.
