Jay Asher is an American novelist; his first novel, Thirteen Reasons Why, was published in 2007.
He generally writes for a young adult readership and explores the upheaval and difficulties faced by American teenagers, dealing with themes including bullying at school, suicide, violence, guilt and betrayal. The setting of his fiction is always realistic: his novels are all set in modern-day American high schools, and sometimes feature social media.
Asher is one of the USA’s most popular young adult fiction writers, and Thirteen Reasons Why has topped the prestigious New York Times Best Seller List.
