Clearly he had no manners at all! Norbert sneered.
But then again, what could anyone expect? Living at the edge of the wilderness in the middle of the remote Scottish Highlands, civilisation, industrialisation, and good polite manners must be impossibly far away. Norbert clenched his jaw tight. The sooner I can finish the job here and get back to Manchester, the better!
Nothing in the world would persuade Norbert to do anything rash or imprudent, although a small part of him was–against his will and his better judgement!–rather attracted to the rough highlander in a way he could not entirely explain.

The heavy sledgehammer hit the white-hot horseshoe against the iron anvil with a loud clang and a shower of sparks rained down on the muddy courtyard ground. Ewan lifted the horseshoe with black metal tongs and inspected it closely.

That should do it, he said and lowered it into a wooden barrel of cold rainwater at the outdoor smithy that was located next to the stable.

The water hissed angrily as the hot metal touched the surface, and the grey dapple mare that was tied up outside the stable nickered nervously and took a couple of short steps to the side.

Do not worry, Skye, Ewan said softly in a Scottish accent and put down his tools next to the forge.
