    HOMER- THE EPIC POET

Homer is unarguably one of the greatest poets of ancient time as evidenced with the epics Iliad and Odyssey. Though he was the first to write any known literature of Europe and gave dimensions to the western culture, very little is admitted as his life story.

There are many opinions about the birth time of Homer. The date ranges from 750 BC to 1200 BC. But Greek historian Herodotus allocated his birth around 850 BC. That is the case with his native place too. Scholars believe it somewhere around the coast of Asia Minor or the Islands of Chios. So much about the knowledge of his life was attributed to his poems. He too was believed to be a blind man like the character Demodokos in The Odyssey.

His epics Iliad and Odyssey throw light into the early human culture and also an illustration how small it was varied from some aspects of today’s life. He beautifully narrated the plot of Trojan War, kidnapping of Helen by Paris making those much familiar even with geographical perfections. Odyssey described the scenarios after the fall of Troy. He was the first to enrich his poems with simile and metaphors and paved the foundations of Homeric style in literature that are still endorsing a lot of people to follow.

Plato quoted Homer as the educator of all Greece with his epical influenced deeply to all most all arts of West. Nevertheless, the real life of this Greek godfather is still a mystery; the punch of his works outlives to illuminate our world. Here we have uncovered a collection of the mystical words of this Great Poet.

Steel itself oft lures a man to fight.

It is wrong to be sorry without ceasing.

For they imagined as they wished--that it was a wild shot, an unintended killing--fools, not to comprehend they were already in the grip of death. But glaring under his brows Odysseus answered: 'You yellow dogs; you thought I'd never make it home from the land of Troy. You took my house to plunder, twisted my maids to serve your beds. You dared bid for my wife while I was still alive. Contempt was all you had for the gods who rule wide heaven, contempt for what men say of you hereafter. Your last hour has come. You die in blood.

We battle on in words, as always, mere words, and what's the cure? We cannot find a thing.

Being popular is the most important thing in the world!

"On these sands and in the clefts of the rocks, in the depths of the sea,
