    Chapter One

    Cadence

Good morning Toronto, today is going to be a bright and sunny July day. Enjoy listening to your morning wake up call. Now playing Shake it off by Taylor Swift, enjoy, the announcer on the radio states, but the speakers on my alarm clock make it sound like he is yelling in my ear.

Oh my God I groan and roll over to look at the offending piece of electronic equipment. If I could get away with throwing my damn radio across the room without disturbing my roommate, I so would. However, I live with my Brother, and I do have to get up and get ready for work.

It’s only five thirty in the morning, I say as I smash my hand down on my alarm clock and swipe the blankets off my body. Lucky thing I wore my flannel onesie to bed last night because it’s freezing cold in my bedroom. Probably because I cranked the air conditioner to drown out the noise of whomever my Brother brought home last night.

As I make my way to the bathroom, I hear movement coming from my left Ross’s bedroom. Ross is my older brother. He also happens to be Toronto’s biggest man whore. I swear he is like a merry-go-round, and every willing female gets a ride. However, he is my brother, and I love him unconditionally. We have been through so much in our young lives that no matter how much people despise him; I will always protect him, even if he is a ticking STD bomb.

I slowly tiptoe past his room, not wanting to wake up whatever woman or women he has in his bed.  Yes, my brother has been known to have multiple women at one time.

Oh, Rossy, don’t stop! I hear moaning from a very feminine voice, she probably doesn’t realize that she is only in his bed because he had a case of blue balls that needed tending to.

I hate when they call him Rossy too. Replace the R with an M, and he is the green stuff that grows in the forest. Ugh! At least he doesn’t smell.

I continue to the bathroom, which is literally on the other side of Ross’s room and lock the door. Time for my daily routine, shower, brush my teeth, brush my bushy, curly brown hair and slap it up into a ponytail, then apply my eyeliner, mascara, and lip gloss, all done in literally half an hour.

I make my way back to my small bedroom just as the woman leaves Ross’s room.

    Rossy, she whines.

Oh, God please shut your mouth, you sound like someone shoved a squeaker toy down your throat, is what I thought. What does catch my eye is the double D’s squashed into a toddler size shirt that reads Princess. Seriously, she must be some stuck up high society chick that is looking for the bad boy to piss daddy or the boyfriend off.  Here I am judging someone on her choice of clothing. I need to stop; I don’t like it when people judge me.

As I continue down the hall, she yells or should I say squeaks, Where the hell do you think you’re going, fatty?

No, the snotty witch did not go there, I thought as I stop, turn around to level the stink eye at her, and shake my head. Just as I’m ready to tell her to go home, Ross slams out of his room.

What the fuck did you just say to my baby sister? he growls. Ross doesn’t like when people demean me based on my size, I mean, I’m only a size sixteen. He usually goes all Incredible Hulk and throws them out. I know the next time she wants to ride on the Rossy-go-round, she will be told to go to hell.

Ross! I hiss in a warning. I like that he protects me and has no problem defending me, but this is my life, it is my job to stand up for myself.

Oh, Rossy, I didn’t know she was your sister, I thought she was another girl. You are mine, I don’t want to share you, she whimpers as she tries to snuggle into his side.

Get the fuck out! You knew it was one night. You got your night, but don’t for one second think that what you say to people, especially people who mean the world to me will make me decide that I want you for longer. Please leave and lose my number. Ross says to her in a low voice as he turns to face me.

Are you okay, my Cady? I’m so sorry, he says as he practically begs me to forgive him and wraps me up in a hug.

Ross, I don’t care what she thinks; she is one of plenty on your mission to bed the entire nation of Canada. She is one of many that think they need to tell me how big I am.  What she and all the other people don’t understand is that I am happy in my body. I live by the saying ‘Love the body you are born with’; what bugs me is that you think so little of yourself that you go for easy. You need to value yourself more, and you will find the right woman to compliment you. Now get off me because you smell like dirty sex, I tell him as I turn around, go into my room and close the door. I take a deep breath and walk to my mirror, then whisper, I’m beautiful and intelligent, it doesn’t matter what others think of me. I’m me! I smile at myself.

I have been saying that mantra for a long time.  It took me years to realize that by being confident with my own image, I portray confidence to the public.

I put on my most used pair of blue jeans, my work shirt, and my favorite pair of bright orange Nike's, my unofficial uniform. The clothes don’t flatter my full figured body, but I work with a bunch of children, literally. I work in a toddler room at a daycare. It is so much fun, and they love you like you’re their new toy. The best thing about them is they aren’t old enough to start judging you, at least not yet, not until society begins to jam their views on them.

I head down to the kitchen where my lovely ‘bed the female population’ brother
