    A DARK CLOUD OVER THE WORLD

    1945

    Dear Journal,

    It is autumn 1945 the war is over, thank God. I've never witnessed so many horrid scenes in my life, it is such a challenge for me to rest at night- because of the terror of war that churns in my mind like an angry sea. I've lost so many childhood & adult friends as a result of this human tragedy; however, it has made me realize that man's wars are unrighteous & uncivilized.

    I was a part of the British military during the war, I served with a special elite group of British soldiers. And even though it was a small group of loyal & brave Englishmen, we were present when the Western Allies entered Berlin in Germany & defeated the weakened Nazi military. The war had ended, but unfortunately, there were many unhealed, deep wounds all over Europe. Forgive me for my written dark undertones, but the Nazis were guilty for many heinous crimes, & they needed to be brought to justice for their many evils.

    Journal, I've never believed there existed a Devil, I thought he was just a folktale, but after the ghastly things I've seen men do to other men in war-a Devil must exist.

    Dear Journal,

    We are departing Germany today, we're going back to the United Kingdom, well, London to be exact. We've gathered news that the Prime Minister Sir Winston- is very proud of our accomplishments, but the men are broken mentally & physically. War has taken its toll on all of us. I received an urgent telegram this morning from Lady Lillian Henry- my childhood friend. Lillian's father Lord Henry, and my father Lord Peregrine, have been close friends for many years now. The writings in the telegram brought despair even closer to my heart, "your dear father had fallen gravely ill & passed away through the
