As I've hiked throughout different national parks and my home of Colorado, I've imagined stories about young boys and girls searching for treasure and, in the process, discovering the best treasure of all: the beauty of wild places. I've been inspired by my own searches for a treasure in the gorges and caves of Ohio, and by my dad, who discovered an ancient Native American settlement when he was just a teenager. ?I've always loved stories, but I didn't always love reading. That changed in sixth grade when my teacher, Mrs. Jones, gave me a copy of The Book of Three by Lloyd Alexander. I hope that the books in my series awaken a love for reading in kids just as that book did for me.I believe that the best way to care for our natural treasures is to first develop a deep connection with them. I hope you have been able to do so in these pages, and that you'll be able to get outside to develop an even deeper affection for the outdoors and national parks near you.

For as long as she could remember Henrietta Hippo had wanted to be a companion for some little girl in need of a friend.
A.tifUp until now only Teddy bears had been allowed to become companions so you can only imagine her surprise as she was reading the morning paper and saw an article from Teddy Tech
The article said ATTENTION ALL TOYS
for the first time ever Teddy tech will be offering a correspondence course in companion training And for the first time ever the course will be open to all toys. Phone 555-6731 for your registration kit, hurry space is limited Henrietta took down the phone number and ordered her registration kit.
Once she ordered her kit she hung up the phone and thought of how lucky it was that she was finally going to be able to become a companion.
The kit arrived the next day by mail. She worked very hard on her registration kit .She had to write an essay on Why She Thought She Would Make A Good Companion
, she even had Mrs Turtle from next door. And Mr. Owl a teacher from the school checks spelling and punctuation.
