    ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

This collection would not have come to fruition were it not for the gracious support of the Tamale family who allowed my wife and me to accompany them to Uganda in 2011. Their extended family greeted us warmly and accepted us into their clan with new names. I would also like to thank Derrilyn Morrison, associate professor of English, Macon College, who graciously edited the manuscript and made many timely suggestions. To my many Jamaican friends at Westmount Seventh day Adventist Church, walk tall.

    Song of Uganda

This country of Uganda is steeped in the traditions

of the Baganda and here teeming tons

of black masses wear different masks

some of riches, some of poverty and others of high

or low land/ living. Children drink at the fountains

of death, defying serums that give life life

    City
