4.1. - Planned Comparisons using ‘Contrast’ Method
• Instead of ‘un-planned’ comparisons (after the experiment) using Post Hoc Tests, we might also run ‘planned’ comparisons (before the experiment) using the ‘Contrast Method’.
Example 4.1.i – Planned comparisons in One-way Anova
• A new drug is tired in 3 groups of patients respectively: Group one - placebo (e.g. a canine), Group two - Low Dosage and Group three – High Dosage. The respond is a score, the higher the better.
• Please run planned comparisons for:
1. With and without any drug
2. High Dosage and Low Dosage of drug.

1. Input Data.

55452.png6. For testing for any ‘Trends’, Check ‘Polynomial’, choose ‘Quadratic’ for this case with 3 groups. (After choosing e.g. ‘Quadratic’, lower orders e.g. ‘Linear’ would also be tested automatically!)

For running 1st ‘Planned Comparison’ for testing any difference between ‘With and Without’ any drugs, weighting for each group is assigned as : Placebo : -2, Low Dosage : 1, High Dosage : 1 (total = 0). For assigning the weighting for Placebo, input ‘-2’ in ‘Coefficients’ and click ‘Add’.
