Think Like a Researcher

hen I was asked to start writing this column in 2015, I had just started as an assistant professor at The College of Idaho after moving from the Bay Area. I had just injured myself and was struggling to regain the peak running form I achieved a few years before. Since then, I’ve gotten married, had one kid (our second is due around the time this goes to print), been promoted to associate professor and awarded tenure, started coaching and am still injured with some non-repairable cartilage damage. Ultrarunning’s popularity has soared with more races and podcasts than ever. I’ve also been lucky enough to write about 60 articles for Magazine, a constant resource in the ultrarunning community for decades. I have covered how to improve your ultrarunning with heat adaptation, altitude exposure, cooling strategies, utilization of various supplements and strength training.
