Patricia J. Lengi
Patricia Stalder Lengi was born in Omak Washington and grew up in Pine Creek Washington a community of farmers and ranchers in the foothills outside of Tonasket Washington 30 miles from the Canadian border. She attended a one room school house throughout grade school and for most of that time her mother was the teacher. She was the Valedictorian of her high school class and graduated from Washington State University with highest honors. She joined CIA and served overseas in Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Switzerland and Egypt. She also lived two years in Germany with her husband before settling down in Virginia.

As sunlight faded from the valley and settled on the snowy peaks of the distant mountains, Hoot sidled out on the broken branch of the big pine. He puffed out his feathers and blinked several times as his eyes became accustomed to the light.
Hooo, hooo! What an extremely delightful evening,
he said. What an extraordinarily beautiful sunset!
Yes, it is pretty, isn’t it?
said a soft voice below.
A doe was standing near Hoot’s tree and a fawn lay at her feet, his long legs tucked under his spotted body. This is the nicest time of day,
she said, nudging the fawn with her nose. Come, little one. We must go before it gets dark.
