In a time when the first citizens came to the Empire, there was a trader who traded on the longest road in the known world. On the road there were small towns where it met the river; he would sail on the river and on to the sea, trading goods up and down the Empire. He was a dreamer he thought that one day he would have his own city, a golden city.
As he travelled he heard whispers about the ancients, what they did, how they lived, and how they saw there world. Sometimes on his journeys he would arrive back at port just to listen to the children, and hear all the latest whispers.
The trader had taken a great deal of notice of all he heard, he kept a box and inside he stored all of the whispers.
The citizens called him the Keeper of the Whispers.
The book was passed down through the generations and was now looking for a new home, and a new keeper. The Defenders of the Empire chose Angela.

Angela was ten years old, and her grandfather had brought her a new bike. So, on Saturday, Angela rode her bike to his house, she was going to help him clear out his attic.
His attic was right at the top of his house, it was dark with a small window covered in cobwebs. The webs had to be moved out of the way with a stick, Angela was very brave.
She poked around the attic with her stick whilst her grandfather carried boxes down the narrow stairs. Behind the boxes that had just been moved she noticed an old chest, her grandfather said he didn’t know what was in it, but what ever it was she could have it.
Angela opened up the chest. Inside was an old book bound in leather; on the front it said The Book of Whispers.

As Angela arrived home she put the Book of Whispers in her tree house at the bottom of the garden, ready to read later. She said hello to her mother in the kitchen, had a wash, changed her clothes, made a jam sandwich and a drink, and returned to read from the book she found in her grandfathers attic.
Removing the dust Angela slowly unfastened the two clips on the side of the book; it flew open on a whisper called, Leo the most evil man in the Empire.
Now Leo’s problem was he told lies all the time. The citizens only realised they had been tricked when he had stolen their money and threatened he was coming back for their souls.
The Elders of the empire were angry with Leo, so they locked him up in a dungeon, and put all his treasures deep in the bowels of the earth.
