Lucifer Reminisces
If I were about to die, would you save me? If I were to bleed, would you heal me? If I were to call, would you come? If I were forgotten, would you remember me? If I were cast out, would you redeem me? If I were to leave, would you miss me?
How can you say that you love me and then leave me alone? How can you say that you forgive me and then leave me here? How can you say that everything will be all right when I feel empty? How can you expect me to change if I hurt? How can I live if everything dies?
I sit here by a river that was created long, long ago by him—him being God. But he is not my God. I tried to acknowledge the light and see it for its wondrous beauty, but alas, I failed. I must retreat into my domain, shut out all that was once good, and accept myself for who I am. I cannot be like you. I cannot live in a world filled with tranquility and the reassurance of people around me. I cannot believe in those I know and expect them to keep their words and promises. It’s not possible to refrain from the negativity and hypocrisy that I see within life. There is far too much denial, hate, and corruption.
Well, that’s not me. I was pulled out of the darkness, only to be disappointed with its effect on humanity, so it is my decision to no longer recognize humans for what they are: mortals who contradict each other more than demons do, but who are still forgiven of their sins.
But what about those of us who dwell deep within the dark, far from direct human contact? How are we to deal with this? I cannot be in the light, for it hurts me to see humans taking advantage of forgiveness. One day a sin is committed, and the following day the human enters a church and expects the priest or minister to lift and banish his sins. It has come to my attention that, after the sin has been lifted, such an individual just creates another sin—and this pattern is repeated over and over. How is this possible?
It isn’t right for you to be hypocritical and continue the blasphemy of forgiveness, because sooner or later there will be a sin that is unforgivable, and then whom will you turn to? That is why I dwell far from hope and keep myself in my domain with those in my legion. We too once committed a sin so powerful that we were banished into another realm. Still, I do not really hate mankind. I do not always despise humans. I do not wish for their downfall, for I too have granted wishes to those who follow my beliefs, to those so desperate that they will compromise their greatest possession to satisfy themselves.
Humans are easily corrupted and can be easily manipulated into doing just about anything. I hate it when someone is within my reach—and then they convert in order to save themselves from me. Sometimes I interfere and stop them from achieving forgiveness. But I am not evil! I am not hate! I am not suffering! I am just misunderstood!
You cannot compare me to him or any other. I have powers of my own, and I have my favorites whom I watch constantly, but they do not see this. I see all and hear all. When mortals were created, there was a question of doubt, and soon enough, jealousy was created and favoritism was revealed. He chose mortals over his creation.
He created man and still favors man to this day. He has a soft spot for mankind and is constantly willing to forgive. Mortals are tested on a daily basis, and I too like to test and create roadblocks. Sometimes I need to test those who are considered holy or peaceful or the few who are committed to their religious beliefs. This needs to be done to test their faith. On occasion, some fail and stray from their religious ways, and a few are born atheist. So I have decided to meet with an archangel. You see, I have an idea, and I believe it will prove what I have come to believe: that
