CHAPTER 1
M onday March 1st eighteen thirty-three Mayfair London England in the distance stands a large house, Georgian by the looks of it isolated but proud in the shadow of a big tree. It is the house of George and Irene Turnbull, in the master bedroom lies Irene, she is about to give birth. George is pacing up and down in the library like a caged lion, suddenly he stops he hears a cry, and a shout from one of the servants It’s a boy it’s a boy
george starts dancing a jig round the room, at twelve-twenty in the afternoon Charles Edward Turnbull was born.
Charles’ formative years were one of turbulence, from his mother who took to the liquor bottle while charles was still quite young. His father had struggled to find work down south so moved north, during the week to work on the docks in Liverpool. As the years went by charles struggled with school work, thanks mostly to the indifference of his mother.
He was saved by his father’s insistence, that charles study maths under his guidance which he excelled at. In eighteen forty-three irene left citing charles’ bad behaviour as an excuse, in truth she did not have it as a mother. In the fall of eighteen forty three, george met and fell in love with a lady by the name of Sarah Turnbury, sarah wanted a child of her own. However, with george working away so often it was just not possible, sarah had to settle for what she had although disappointed she soon forgot about having her own child and concentrated on charles.
Over the next few years charles settled down, thanks to sarah’s patience and his growing maturity everything now became easy for the young man. Socially awkward he was tall for his age, nearly six foot age fifteen he eventually stopped growing at five feet eleven. He was now proficient at almost all his subjects in school save two, in eighteen forty-nine while walking the street on his way home from a party.
He came across a female tramp lying prone in the street with a half bottle of gin, lying next to her its contents dribbling out of the bottle into the gutter. He kicked at her to get her to move, to his horror he recognised the clothing she was wearing, it was his mother laying there she was only forty-five years old.
Charles rushed home to tell his father
