First and foremost the author gives all the praise and glory to his divine Lord and savior for giving me a special gift. This magnificent gift came to me in my desire to communicate to other through a vision of literary expression that is to write. As a young child growing up in a religious family of four kids, I had two brothers, one younger than me and a sister, who was a year older than I, that made me the middle child. We were a very close family and every Sunday we were in the church. My father was a minister and quite frankly I believe that was the reason why we were drawn in the church. Every Sunday morning we started out early on our way to Sunday school and later the morning service. When I turned sixteen, my parent gave me the option that if I did not want to go to church on Sundays I didn’t have to. I gladly choose the ladder option without any hesitation, yet I still attended church but not as often. My family was well respected in our neighborhood. We knew everyone and they knew us. Our family loved two things, first our divine savior, then the game of Baseball. We all loved our home town Dodgers, I vividly remember listening to the ball games on the radio late at night. After school my brother and I would spend allot of time at the local boys club, They offered us many activities, but more importantly the boys club was a place that kept us out of harm’s way, we were safe became my second home with so many things to get involved with, the club became the place everyone wanted to attend as often as possible. From arts and crafts, movies, games, weekend trips and so much more with a staff that really showed great interest in each individual it was awesome. The Irony is even while I was attending the boys club, many years ago I had asked my divine gather to make a way and open the door that I could became a writer someday. I remember when I was attending middle school I had a passion for reading; the newspaper became a daily habit for me. Thereafter I discovered other items to read like Newsweek, People and Time Magazine, and just about anything that I could get my hands on, suddenly reading became interesting. One of the most fascinating thins that I learned from reading these articles was how these journalist wrote their stories amazing with so much skill and craftsmanship for writing as I read article after article, I felt like I was right there, that’s the quality of a great writer. In High school I never heard of anyone majoring in Journalism, I didn’t know if the was available, so while attending college at U.C.L.A., I never pursued a course in Journalism or Fine Arts in Creative Writing. Why I’ll never know the reason for that blunder. Yet still yearning to write someday but in the midst of confusion and doubt my struggle to write became an even greater hurdle to overcome. So I turned my once self doubting energy towards reading books on how to write. I was told if I really wanted to be a writer someday, then I should read books on this subject, then I read a book written by Dr. Rudolf Flesch, after all he was called “The Mr. Fix-It of Writing” As I began to understand how to write I finally found a peace of Mind that I longed for, Now I realize what it take to become a GREAT writer, to master the Art of Writing is not easy, but then nothing in life comes easy. When you have a dream and you accept the challenge you must master it, stay focused, embrace it became dreams come true. D.H.
