About this ebook

Futuresto is the writers attempt, taking inspiration from the futuristic ideas of the wise men and women of history to highlight the need for structural changes in the existing doddering, old institutions concerned with the management of the temporal affairs of the people, because over the years, they have become loaded with the tar of venality, self-seeking, mammon-worship, and what not. The turbulence, bloody conflicts, and widespread dissatisfaction the world over with vague moralization and sabotage of egalitarian values are ominous signs to ignore. Leisurely pursuit of economics of profit, extravagant jamborees vulgarizing cultural tastes, the practice of adversarial politics of spoils, and the sordid amalgam of the secular with the ecclesiastical cannot continue for long. The plaintive notes of humanity are inked in the Futuresto to generate interest and debate on the urgency of the changes needed. And at the same time, explore the protean capacity of democracy to throw up new guidelines for management of the temporal affairs of humankind through concerted efforts at the national and international levels so that we all are able to live and prosper together, balancing human aspirations with the limitations of nature.

    Introduction

A manifesto is the documented public pronouncement of a Political Party’s action-plans for the betterment of the circumstances of the people of its country. Likewise, ‘FUTURESTO’ is the writer’s attempt, taking inspiration from the futuristic ideas of the wise men and women of history, to highlight the need for structural changes in the existing doddering old institutions concerned with the management of the temporal affairs of the people. Because, over the years, they have become loaded with the tar of venality, self-seeking, mammon worship and what not.

The turbulence, bloody conflicts, widespread dissatisfaction the world over with vague moralization and sabotage of egalitarian values are too ominous signs to ignore. Leisurely pursuit of economics of profit, extravagant jamborees vulgarizing cultural tastes, the practice of adversarial politics of spoils and the sordid amalgam of the secular with the ecclesiastical cannot continue for long. The plaintive notes of humanity are inked in the ‘FUTURESTO’ to generate interest and debate on the urgency of the changes needed. And at the same time explore the protean capacity of democracy to throw up new guidelines for management of the temporal affairs of humankind, through concerted efforts at the national and international levels, so that we all are able to live and prosper together, balancing human aspirations with the limitations of nature.

    Acknowledgement

As it is customary to do so, the curator of the ideas contained in this volume is obliged to all those writers and thinkers of the past and there is no end to thank them. A word or two are due to the one person who has painstakingly over the last few years has worked hard along with the Curator to see that this volume comes into life and in public domain. The Curator cannot fully thank and express his gratitude to his granddaughter, Damini Tewari, a PhD student at King’s College London but for whom this collection of poems would not have seen the light of the day.

A word may also be written to thank and express my gratitude to the hard working housewife who let me get engaged in this type of work and to neglect all my household responsibilities. That person is no other than my caring and loving wife.

    Chapter 1

    There Is Enough For Everyone

    Bones Don’t Cry

Mother where’s all the flesh from me gone

You said was part of mine when I was born

It was soft silky sacramental and so lovely

Gave me life and vigor and made me cry

Mother you didn’t talk of bones then, why

Mom these bones don’t hurt don’t demand

Its the poky pit with some flesh still around

Called tummy that pains and makes me cry

Renders me miserable crazy and mindless

Crave for food that is not ample or is mine

Mother take away that little remnant flesh

From shriveled belly still sticking around

Fill it with more bones there that abound

I will crave not for food or for sacred life

Nor for a patch of land as mine to survive

Nor for them fussy few to come in between

Give me those rotten smelly morsel or two

Put my dry frame on canvas and click away

Depart in tearing haste saying god bless you

Mother you shedding tears shamelessly why

My tears are dry flesh gone bones don’t cry

Mother you said militiamen maim and hurt

For a cut of land arid faith heavenward bound

As if there is not enough of an abiding space

For all those born in this placid mother earth

God’s home called heaven by genteel imagery

Will not let in even the clerics among them

For their failure to see between sin and piety

Who kill in God’s name and deign to sell faith

Will die a wretched death at their own hands

Even copious hell has no place for such of them

Who have nothing except gooey fungous faith

    Plied irreverently on
