    In Alice’s Dream

    The Wish:

    Alice looked down; there she saw nothing but darkness. Then Alice looked behind her: she could see the figure coming closer and closer. She knew she had no choice but to jump. Alice closed her eyes, but it made no difference.

    Alice, Alice wake up. She opened her eyes but could not see a thing. Did you have a bad dream again? Alice reached out and touched the face. It was her mom.

    Yes, it was the same one as last time, Alice said.

    Well, maybe a cup of tea will make you feel better. Here, I’ll help you go downstairs.

    Thanks, Mom. What would I do without you? Why can’t I walk down stairs alone the way I used to? Alice wondered.

    When Alice was downstairs, her mom led the way to the table. Here you go—why don’t you sit here?

    "Thanks, Mom, but I think, next time, you could let me walk myself to the kitchen.’’

    Oh, Alice, you know I’m only doing this for your own good. The doctor said I need to keep an eye on you.

    Fine! Alice said. I’m sick, I’m blind and now this. What does she want from me?"

    What flavor tea do you want: raspberry or lemon?

    Raspberry, please . . . Alice said. It took a while but her mom finally finished making the tea.

    Here you go, her mom said, putting the tea on the old wooden table. As Alice tried to find the tea her mother screamed, Wait, I forgot something, don’t drink the tea yet. As her mom came towards the table, she dropped something into Alice’s hand. It felt like an oval. It was
