    Foreword

Harvest Unlimited is a landmark book that benefits us all with a solid view of the theology of soul winning, which is the heartbeat of God. In a day and age where there are all extremes in teaching and preaching from our pulpits, and all foundational truths and absolutes are under attack and are being destroyed in the hearts and minds of this present generation, there is a tremendous need to maintain sound doctrine for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints(Jude v 3b).

Simon Makwarela is a unique evangelist who chose to work as a compass that serves to guide the church. There is great assurance and peace when one can point to and proclaim God’s absolutes as written in the inspired and authoritative Word of God, the Holy Bible, which says Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Amen (Matthew 28:19–20).

The future of the church rests in the quality of leaders we identify, cultivate, train, mentor, and empower to serve their generation with humility and an awareness of their dispensability. May there be a new generation of leaders who love serving more than being served, empowering more than retaining power, giving authority more than taking authority, and producing leaders more than maintaining followers. May they be mentored and become mentors through Harvest Unlimited.

This book is an in-depth guide to understanding soul winning, the mission of evangelism, and church growth. It will no doubt be helpful and stimulating to all who love the work of the Lord through His church. Church leaders, young pastors, Bible school students, seminarians, and students of church growth with a vision of reaching the world for Christ can all find practical help and ideas for growth through:

    •  clear steps to achieving fruitfulness

    •  biblical wisdom on winning souls

    •  clear instructions on applying key persistence and shamelessness in God’s Word

    •  hints on how to breakout of comfort zones in order to reach the lost

    •  a timely discourse on signs and wonders as evidence of power in the kingdom of God

    •  an authoritative presentation of the urgent call to evangelize the world

This book offers leaders the dynamics of soul winning in order to build solid, serving laborers. Harvest Unlimited is your blueprint to success in church growth. The practical application of truths contained in this volume will transform your life and that of your congregation into a dynamic, impactive expression of Jesus Christ. The church needs people who are willing to stand as sentinels, watching for direction as they stand in soul-winning battle zones.

To go from hyped messages to true spiritual power requires brutal personal honesty. The cheap thrill and the instant cure must be abandoned. We can become the dread of demons and a delight to our mighty God. God gives us ninety-six quarter-hours every day. The author is asking, Will you give God at least one or two of these time periods to invest in soul winning among your neighbors, loved ones, friends, community, and the world?

In Harvest Unlimited, Simon has authored a book that calls for a fullhearted pursuit of gold tried in the fire. May you zealously remove any clutter or entanglement that jeopardizes your ability to hear and obey your commander in chief, Jesus Christ, when He commands, Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age(Matthew 28:19–20).

This is a serious book that has serious answers for all serious believers all over the world today. It is an answer to how best the church can partner with the ruling governments in addressing social ills in every community. Let this book release God’s power in us, our children, and our grandchildren.

    Dr. Bishop Israel Cedric Malele

Senior pastor and founder of Word of Life Bible Church (RSA)

    Preface

Inasmuch as many evangelists have contributed to the undeniable numerical growth of God’s church to date, I too found it appropriate and urgent to begin educating, equipping, and empowering the body of Christ on issues pertaining to effective evangelism. I am convinced of this urgency, in that the majority of those born again today are not putting any individual effort into winning the lost souls around them. The issue of winning lost souls is being treated as a mild case that has been relegated to just a few, and yet our homes, streets, and communities are dominated by shackled souls. The Devil is busy destroying our loved ones without mercy. The level of participation in the works of darkness is at an alarming level globally. Something has to be done swiftly, or the worst is about to control our communities.

Now is the time to remind the church of its primary reason to exist, the main reason that you and I are saved, and the ultimate purpose of His being crucified on Calvary. All is anchored upon one mission: to seek, find, and save the lost. Christ came for the lost, and truly speaking, there is nothing worth celebrating today if the church in every community is outnumbered by those who are in the hands of the Devil. Trying to reach them all alone is the biggest blunder, as all believers must begin to take the responsibility for reaching out to lost souls, using all possible means to lead them to the Savior.

As I researched, I began to understand the meaning of evangelism as the Father pronounces it. I discovered issues that would advance His kingdom through the lives of all and not some. I am not advocating for mass crusades. The greatest preacher at mass gatherings is a powerful soul winner, and soul winning on a one-on-one basis is best conducted by a powerful speaker. One begins to worry when believers fold their arms and justify their non-participation in witnessing the gospel, relegating the responsibility to just but a few. This issue of evangelism has been treated lightly over the years. It has been given little attention, and few believers today are actively involved in it. The great commission calls for the participation of all believers without exception. We are all expected to do the winning of lost souls.

Only when we win souls for Him is He saturated with joy. Therefore, soul winning becomes the first thing, the primary goal and the ultimate vision of the church. With great sadness we discover that the church today is majoring on secondary things; Christians are interested in blessings only. There is no want to in today’s saints; no wonder why they are not interested in knowing how to. With an absence of how to in our hearts, we cannot effectively win lost souls. This book is aimed at stirring the want to and broadening one’s understanding of the how to, hence becoming a formidable force in our communities.

The desire of the church has to be redirected to focus on winning souls for Him. It’s not just a duty. We need to be passionate about it. Remember that the joy of the Lord is our strength. We all need to feel the joy of leading someone to know and accept Jesus as Lord and Savior of one’s life. My calling to other evangelists all over the world is this: Let us prepare more harvesters, for the harvest is plenty. Soul winners must motivate others to do soul winning, not only by preaching about it but by living it. It is embarrassing to note that we do not have enough soul-winning pastors and leaders. We have too many selfish prosperity preachers and leaders, and that is why our local churches have become gatherings of spiritual parasites.

Most Christians are materialistic; their lives are all about themselves, not Christ. Our gospel today is diluted by our individualistic pride, which turns off a lot of lost souls. There is no compassion in us, no more agape love. Even more devastating are our negative testimonies about how the world is becoming a hell on earth. We speak less of His power over sin and the Devil. We do not show people how He opens doors, how He heals the sick, how He forgives and forgets all of our sins, and the many effective ways this gospel works.

It is my plea that we become more actively involved in our local churches and communities in winning souls. The issue of harvesting souls should be dealt with in the pulpit and outside the church buildings. This book lays many foundational truths about being laborers with Him. It explains some spiritual disciplines and issues that enhance the effectiveness of the soul winner. We are called to be fishers of men, to be His witnesses, and to preach His gospel to every human being. This is not a one-man show. It calls for our participation in winning souls for Jesus, populating heaven as we plunder hell. This book has all that you need to stirrup a hunger for more souls.

Let the transactions begin to roll.

    Acknowledgments

Let me begin by expressing my appreciation for the inspiration, motivation, and support I received, directly and indirectly, from ministry associates, friends, and Christian leaders. I thank them for shaping this whole work through me. Some of you influenced me, unobserved, to research deeper. If I somehow miss your name and you know how much you have contributed and deserve to be mentioned in any category, please forgive me. It’s not an intentional error. You too are counted with the rest.

Therefore, be acknowledged together with the likes of my late spiritual father and mentor Pastor Johannes Kumanda. This is one giant with whom I walked and who helped me in understanding my calling.

I am grateful to have served under the man who held me by the hand from my teething stages in ministry, my elder brother and spiritual advisor Bishop Walter Takalani Makwarela, you sharpened and shaped me into this global tool, and you did not labor in vain brother.

My endless thanks go to a most outstanding, inspiring, soft-spoken, and humble but highly favored servant of the Lord, Dr. Israel Cedric Malele. Unobserved, you inspired, motivated, encouraged, and sharpened me into writing works in life.

It would be an injustice not to thank ministry pacesetters Dr. Maxwell A. Masakona and Apostle Clement Koma for the motivation to go all-out for lost souls through any given preaching platform. They set the global ministry standards and still remain a challenge to most of us. May you continue in your lifetime assignment of sowing more spiritual seeds globally.

My thanks to my ever-supportive ministry partner and close, die-hard friend, Bishop Mduduzi Khoza. It is now over a decade and a half since we entered into ministry partnership. The Almighty made us twins in being obedient to the Master’s voice and heartbeat. Whatever has been downloaded into this book carries the true reflection of your ministry position. Keep on harvesting, Mntaka baba.

I give my undivided respect and immeasurable thanks to my personal best friend, companion, and silent partner, Brian Gonzo, who professionally contributed a lot in refining and shaping this book. Your contribution through deeply researched material has given this book the weight it carries today. For all your time and knowledge invested in this book, may the Chief of Staff reward you in a special way as many souls get harvested. You remain a special friend to me.

I feel highly favored and honored to have received positive comments from highly respected servants of God, who, after reading my initial drafts of this book, did not hide from me any constructive comments and criticism. They helped to shape this final product. I cannot thank them enough: Dr. Vusi Dube, Dr. Kenneth Meshoe, Dr. Ezrom Zulu, Dr. Mashimbye, Prophet Elijah Maloma, Bishop Strike Manganyi, Prophetess Nozuko V Joyi, Bishop Liau Tholwana, Archbishop Nicholas Zanni, Pastor Mgoduka, Apostle Patrick Mdaka, Bishop Gunguve, Bishop Digashu, Bishop Mathlakgane, Bishop Seth Radebe, Bishop Tause, Bishop Freddy Kgwedi, Bishop Isaac Sibanyoni, Bishop Wahl Abrahams, Dr. Roy Wallace, Dr. Salmao Decca, Pastor Makola, Pastor Muzaza, Dr. Phiri, Bishop Rasakanya, Bishop Zachariah Mpiana, Pastor Nkanyane, Dr. Nash Shongwe, Prophet Didier Sunda, Bishop Saulos Lubisi, Pastor Mkasi, Apostle Ephraim Khumalo, Pastor Mkhize, Bishop Sibuyi, Bishop Silinda, Pastor Ntimane, Bishop Sambo, Pastor George Mgiba, Pastor Mtobejane, Pastor Tom Mofokeng, Pastor Tshiwilowilo, Bishop Jeremiah Zulu, Bishop M. A. Shange, Pastor Bothepa Morgates, Overseer Laudwick Selowe, Bishop Khabo Nyikiza, Pastor Takalani Ndou, and many others.

I remain indebted to the lives of men and women of God who came closer to my life and invested their hard-earned money into each and every step of building the final draft of this book. If it wasn’t for them, I couldn’t have made it. May all who invested in this book be abundantly blessed in the Lord. As the souls are harvested, the Lord will definitely take care of your desires.

Salutations go to Pastor Gerald Mohlabe, who was part of the establishment of Setting the Captives Free Crusades, a ministry that was fueled by prayer and fasting in the mountains. The winter and rainy nights we spent at His feet were not in vain. Do you remember the Golden Book I received in prayer in 1996? It is now eighteen years since then, and this is the book that we were long waiting for, the book born from the threshold of prayer.

I will ever be thankful to local churches, ministries, and denominations that opened their doors and allowed me to minister. Most of the material documented in this book has been tested and found very effective in equipping the saints. I must not forget the special invitations that changed my understanding of the global need for partnerships in missionary work in Africa and during my recent visits outside Africa. It all started under trees at rural circle fires, gatherings around one paraffin lamp, one accordion, one microphone, and one self-amped speaker. The shaping process was a bit taxing, but that’s what makes one stand until today.

I am grateful to have been served by my own blood brother Samuel. His intellectual reservoir became useful as I began the research. We debated on issues and agreed to disagree on certain facts, theories, and commentaries. Remain in the Lord, Samuel. I still need your support through all. To me you are an asset, to the family you are a jewel, and in His kingdom you are ever accommodated.

In humbleness I sincerely pass my appreciation and a million thanks to the following libraries that, over the years, considered me part of their shelves and desks:

    •  The Johannesburg City Library, RSA. You have some old, valuable books that helped me go back to the Ancient of Days and hear what was on the Master’s heart.

    •  The Calvary University Library, UK. Your modern setup and collection of books made me deal with certain issues cautiously, lest I fail in presenting life-changing issues in an uneducated manner. Even my art of writing changed as I was exposed to modern Christian literature.

    •  The Mutare School of Preaching Library, Zimbabwe. What a rich resource center this is! There I began learning from scratch some of the subjects I dealt with in this book. This library is saturated with all kinds of Christian literature in Greek, Hebrew, and Latin. To this day, I do not forget the fact that my first exposure to Hebrew and Latin translations was from this very library. You have one of the best libraries in the world, and your librarians are like mobile books themselves. You are simply the best. Keep it up. Sinyoro nemi Gambiza mune vadhara ve mabhuku.

To my current ministry friends and personal close associates: Bishop Monty Mabale, Bishop Moshe Musapelo, Abel Lusithi, Alfred Binda, Mzi Miya, Jerry Mashaba, Aubrey Shikwambana, Don Mushwana, General Saulos Lubisi, Philemon Mathebula, Jerry Maponya, Eric Banyini, Kenny Shivambu, Comrade Gala, Ray Shilubane, and many others. I have known you as kingdom soldiers, and your commitment to assist my ministry with such eloquence and sharpness of spirit is unforgettable. Most of the content of this book has passed through your lips of interpretation, and I believe you are willing to document some translation of this book. Thank you for your support, commitment, and obedience to His calling. Continue doing it, and desire above all to please Him. Let’s plunder hell as we populate heaven! Sekonakele ngempela.

My family, my blood brothers and sisters, cannot be forgotten. Your rallying behind me, even in moments when the whole world could not see anything good about me, is indelible in my memory. You were there for me as a family, which alone encouraged me to stand firm upon His word in realization of the destiny in store for us. If not for your genuine trust and love, I couldn’t have done
